Spider-man couldn't help but to scream. Sure, he'd heard plenty of gun shots in his life but after May, it was the scariest and most excruciating sound.
He hid his head in his hands and cried uncontrollably, begging for everything to stop. It was too loud, his ears were ringing and he was immensely scared.
Deadpool dropped the gun and hastily paced over to Spider-Man, falling to his knees to comfort him.
"Spidey, it's over. I promise that it's over." He soothed while putting his hand out as a test to know if he could touch him.
To both of their surprise, Spider-Man flung himself forward into Deadpool's body and clung to him.
Deadpool maneuvered them to where he leaned against the couch with the suddenly frail boy in his arms.
Spider-Man's head lay on his chest and tears flowed down his face. Deadpool rocked them back and forth, holding him close. He wasn't sure if Spider-Man had even seen his face yet considering he more likely would've ran for the hills if he did.
They were clinging to each other for what felt to be an eternity but wasn't nearly that long when the front door slammed open, revealing Clint, Tony and Steve.
Their expressions immediately hardened when they saw the both of them and Spider-Man jumped slightly, Deadpool stood up. Spider-Man didn't move from the ground.
He grabbed his mask and shrugged at them before he picked up Spider-Man, his legs wrapping around Deadpool's waist and his head in the crook of his neck. Deadpool had to admit that he was delighted Spider-man didn't push him away.
"What the hell is this?" Tony and Clint asked in sync, baffled.
"I got the fucker who killed his aunt but he broke down. We're both tired so I'm taking him home." Deadpool managed not to raise his voice and tried to get passed them but it was unsuccessful.
"Home? No, his home is the tower." Steve said in confidence. The rest nodded and prepared themselves silently for a fight.
"We don't have time for this," He sighed and turned his eyes down to the boy. "I'll take him to the tower so he can sleep but not for long, dammit." He gave in which was a happy surprise to the Avengers.
Spider-Man wanted to say something on the walk home, although he wasn't walking at all. There was so much he wanted to say but he couldn't seem to form the words, he knew without the Avengers around it was the best time. He heard Deadpool agree to take him to the tower as long as he could walk him so they were definitely alone.
He thought of ways to start a conversation even in the comfortable silence.
Thank you. You saved my life. I'm sorry. Don't let go. I wanna go to the apartment. He wanted to say all of these things but he refrained. Deadpool was right, he needed to rest somewhere and get proper food into his system.
When they arrived at the tower and in the elevator, Deadpool cleared his throat and Spider-Man took it as a signal to get off of him. He did it awkwardly then stood beside him.
"Spidey," Deadpool began, rubbing his neck and quickly realizing he hadn't put his mask back on.
"Oh shit!" He grabbed his mask from the side of his suit hastily but he was stopped by a firm hand on his wrist.
"You don't have t-" Spider-man started in a soft tone.
"Don't. I'm fucking disgusting!" Deadpool stated loudly. He flinched away from Spider-Man and tried to put his mask on again, only to be stopped.
"I think you're actually pretty good looking." Spider-man smiled awkwardly under his own mask and lifted his hand away from Deadpool, hoping he'd leave it off.
