They returned to the tower and were a little shocked to see that Wade hadn't left. In fact, he was wearing Clint's sweatpants and an old hoodie that Peter owned. He hoodie was too big for Peter but fit Wade perfectly. Peter avoided voicing his opinion but it made him feel bubbly to see Wade in his clothes, getting along with his family.
Wade jumped to his feet and he seemed to be dying of laughter. He had been sitting on the couch with the rest of the team and Bucky watching something that was immediately shut off when they entered the room.
"Hey, baby boy!" He greeted through chuckles and hugged Peter, rocking side to side.
"Hey, Wade. What's so funny?" They pulled apart and Peter smiled up at him intriguingly. The sound of Wade's muffled laughter made him want to know what they were watching even more.
Another small laugh was heard behind them from, surprisingly, Bruce. Wade ruffled Peter's hair. "Babe, do you remember a day where you wanted to be a rock star?" Peter blushed at the pet name but shrugged it off.
"Uh, no?" He sent Wade a crooked smile. By then, Tony and Steve realized what they were watching earlier and they sat on the table behind the couch.
"You showed him the video?" Steve asked Thor in mocking betrayal.
Thor put his hand to his heart dramatically. "Steven, it was Clint, I assure you. He described it as an initiation." Thor boomed as usual.
Tony raised his eyebrow at Clint and crossed his arms. "Initiation for what exactly?" He asked.
Clint sighed, "I don't fully approve of their whole dating thing but if they're gonna date, he might as well see what Peter gets up to when no one is around." A number of different things came out of Steve and Tony's mouths.
"They can't date." Tony stated sternly.
"That sentence was far too sexual, Clint." Steve shook his head.
Tony looked at Steve, "That's what you're concerned about?" Peter decided he should step in before it leads to an argument.
"I'm not dating Wade. Where did you even get that idea?" He asked Clint seriously. As much as he would like to be in a real relationship with Wade, he knew that wasn't the best for either of them. Wade needed a grownup whether he knew it or not, he didn't need a kid. Peter still had to get through high school. Wade was a mercenary, he stood for everything Peter stood against. They simply weren't compatible.
"Wade said you were." Bruce stated and a sad, awkward silence filled the room. Peter and Wade exchanged glances and Peter mouthed a 'sorry.' The pain in Wade's eyes made him want to hold the taller man, even if they both kept it hidden.
'And it backfired.' Yellow said flatly.
'No. We can hope!' White tried to keep spirits high.
'Why would either of you think Peter would actually like this basket case?' This was on of the few appearances they'd made since he met Peter. They seemed to be louder this time.
"I should," Wade paced to the elevator, not looking back at any of them. "I should go." Nobody tried to stop him. Peter wanted to, he wanted to spin Wade around and kiss him. It took everything in him to refrain from doing so. Without another word, Wade was out of the room.
The team eyed Peter and noticed he was biting back tears. It was a long but good day, he wouldn't let that go away just because Wade did.
Natasha cleared her throat, "Fury said he has a mission for us. Not a long one, just overnight. When we get back, you two should start the paperwork." Tony and Steve nodded and the team got ready to go.
