Chapter 2
Palm Spring, California
7:35 am | Chase"Aw hell naw!" I yelled, as I stared at the empty toilet paper rack.
I tried to open the cabinet under the sink but it was too far away and out of my reach. I debated whether to stand up and quickly grab it but what if my crap starts dripping down my-- never mind. There was only one thing to do.
"Chance!"
"What do you want?" He yelled through the other side of the door.
"I need your help, come in." I said. Estúpido, why didn't you check if there were toilet paper? I thought to myself.
The door knob twisted and Chance walked in, took a whiff, and immediately walked out.
"Damn it Chase! What did you eat?" He said, covering his nose with the back of his hand.
"Shut up! All shits smell the same!" I protested.
Chance gagged and was about to close the door.
"Wait!"
"What? I feel like I'm going to die." He said, face scrunched up.
"Pass me a roll of toilet paper before you go."
"Get it yourself." Again, he was about to close the door.
I yelled, "Walk to school then!"
Chance and I don't get our car until our birthday so we're carpooling. We take turns using one of dad's old car, and this week the car is mine. He groaned before pinching his nose and walking back in. He grabbed a roll of toilet paper and threw it at me. Then he ran out of the bathroom, slamming the door. I proceeded to do my business.
When I walked downstairs after getting rid of the Chipotle from last night, I grabbed two bacons from the table and grabbed the key to the car.
"Hijo (son), going already?" Mama asked as she fed my little sister, Cassie.
Chance glares at me and says, "I'm still eating!"
"Eat in the car, we have to meet Evan before school starts."
Chance grabs his bacon and runs out the door, trying to put on his shoes. We got in the car and I pulled out of the driveway.
"Hey guess what." Chance said, his mouth stuffed with food.
"What?" I asked.
"I think there's a new girl in town." He said. I turned to look at him and saw a goofy grin plastered across his face.
"Same girl that brought over the lasagna?"
"I don't know but she's cute."
"I have to see that for myself." I said, turning a right at the stop sign.
Chance's definition of cute and mine, are total opposite. No matter what people say, we are two completely different people despite having the same face. What he likes, I don't. What I like, he doesn't. Simple as that. So if he thinks this new girl is cute, there's a possibility I won't.
