Tris POV
"Hey, Tris," I hear Tobias call from the front of the apartment. I had just come to the kitchen from putting my new clothes into a closet. "I was wondering if we could go on a date tomorrow night," he says, now appearing in my line of vision.
"Sure. Where are we going?" I ask, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"It's a surprise," he responds. He puts his hands on my waist and bends down to kiss me. I have to stand on my tiptoes to reach him. I'm not sure how long we just stand there kissing but it doesn't really matter, since neither of us have anywhere to be for the rest of the day. I finally break away to let him fix dinner and so I can change into something more comfortable. The pants I've been wearing all day are getting quite uncomfortable.
Tobias POV
"Hey, Tris," I call out from the door of the apartment. I had finished talking to Christina and watched her until she entered Zeke's room. No doubt he wanted help with a girl as well. I was really nervous about asking Tris for that date, but I decided that tomorrow night we would go out to Navy Pier, to the Ferris wheel, and have dinner. I might be able to swallow my fear and carry a dinner to the first place we stopped and sat down. Where I first realized that I truly had feelings for the girl I'm looking at now. "I was wondering if we could go on a date tomorrow night."
"Sure. Where are we going?" she asks, standing on her toes to wrap her arms around my neck.
"It's a surprise," I whisper. I know that the Ferris wheel might be the best spot for privacy and a first date, so I am confident that it will go well. I put my hands around Tris's waist and bend down to kiss her. She pushes up on her toes and deepens the kiss. I worry that one day I'll lose control of myself and won't be able to gain it back. I really don't think she knows what she does to me.
-----------TIME WARP-----------
Tobias POV
I pace across the bedroom floor waiting for Tris to come out of the bathroom. She's been in there for half an hour getting ready for our date. When she comes out, I am speechless. She is wearing a black dress that has lace at the top and a cutout pattern in the middle, a black leather jacket, and high-heeled shoes that I'm sure Christina made her buy. Her hair hangs in loose curls down her back and a few strands frame her face. She isn't usually pretty, but tonight she seems beautiful.
Tris POV
I have spent more than half an hour in the bathroom. It only took five minutes to get dressed, but it took twenty-five to curl my hair and another ten to do my makeup. Christina taught me how to do makeup for a special occasion, and I believe she taught me well. I walk out of the bathroom and Tobias immediately stops pacing to look at me. I'm not pretty. I've never been pretty, but I can tell that he doesn't believe that right now.
"Tris, you look..." he says. He doesn't seem to be able to find a word for it and I smile. "You look...nice," he finally decides. Tobias looks nice, too. He's wearing dress pants and a button-up shirt and tie. All black, of course.
"Thank you," I respond. "Are you ready?" I ask. He should be, seeing as how I took so long to get ready.
"Yes. Let's go," he says and opens the door for me. We walk to the train tracks and he jumps on without effort. He holds his arm out to me and I gladly take it. Stilettos are not the best shoes to be wearing when trying to jump on a train.
"Can you tell me where we're going?" I ask.
"Not yet," he yells over the roar of the wind. "You'll know it when you see it!" He pulls me into him and we sit down. It's obviously going to take a while. I lean up against Tobias and my legs are off to the side a bit when the wind nearly knocks me over. I straddle him. "What are you doing?" he asks. In response, I just lean down, placing my hands on his ribs, and kiss him. He kisses back and it is the most amazing feeling in the world. A warmth spreads through me just before he stops and looks out the door. "We're here," he says, clearly disappointed.
We get off the train and I know where we are. "The Ferris wheel," is all I say. I see him smile and nod. We walk up to the Ferris wheel and Tobias starts to climb. "Are you sure?" I ask him.
He nods and says, "I've got a surprise waiting up there. Come on." I follow close behind him until we reach the landing where we first stopped the night of the paintball game. There is a basket filled with food. "I fixed dinner while you were out with Christina today. Here," he says, handing me a sandwich. I look further into the basket and notice there is cake at the bottom. I smile and he says "Would you rather just have the cake?" I nod and reach into the basket to pull out the cake. My legs are hanging over the edge, just as they were that night. I look at Tobias and see that he isn't crouched against the support, but also sitting with his legs over the edge.
"I have something for you. Consider it a gift for becoming a member," he says, pulling something out of the basket and handing out to me. It is a long black box. I open it and inside is the most beautiful necklace I've ever seen. In the center of a silver chain is a black diamond. I pick it up and the color changes to grey.
"Tobias, it's beautiful! I love it," I say and give him a kiss.
Tobias POV
When Tris told me she loved the necklace, I couldn't help but smile and when she kissed me my smile grew. I had to be the luckiest guy in the City to be sitting here with her. We finished the cake and started to climb down. Luckily, this time nothing broke. We walk back to the train and jump on. It's not long before we're back at the apartment and Tris is asleep. I smile as I watch her peaceful breaths and lie down on the couch to sleep.
