I yawn as I slouch in my chair. Mom sets down a plate of sunny side up eggs on the table before me and I eat my breakfast.

“Thanks, ma." I say rushing back to my room in my pajamas. Time to get ready for school. I say in my head.

I open my door, only to close and lock it behind me. Then I head toward my dresser when I trip on my softball bag and remember I have my first game coming up. I smile and look at my neatly folded uniform on my desk and keep walking to my dresser.

I grab my undergarments and open my shirt drawer, pulling out my black and white T-shirt. I close that drawer and open the one under it that holds my pants. I grab my black skinny jeans and throw my clothes on my bed. Walking in the closet, I turn on my light. I unhook my bright red leather overalls and throw them on my bed, too.

As soon as I finish dressing myself, I put on a pair of white ankle socks and slip on my bright red leather Doctor Martens that match my overalls. Then, I sit at my vanity and turn on my hair curler. While I wait for it to heat up, I do my makeup. Finally, I finish curling my hair and go downstairs with my backpack.

Slamming my locker door, I adjust the textbooks that are stacked in my arms and head towards my first period classroom; History.

I drop my stuff on my desk and meet my friend over by her desk.

“Hey, Kay!" I exclaim.

“Sup, Richardson?" she said turning around, whipping her long hair over her shoulder.

“Guess what?" I asked her excitedly. Kayla raised her in response.

“My mom said for my birthday I could go bowling with you and everyone else!" I said, trying not to jump up and down. I love bowling.

“Right, your fourth birthday." she teased with a smirk pasted on her face. I hit her arm playfully and laughed.

“It's not my fault I was born on a stupid leap year." I said after the bell rang. I headed back towards my seat like everyone else.

“Good morning, class. Today, we are going to continue yesterday's lesson on the Italian Golden Age..." my teacher, Mr. Yoder said. I zoned out and doodled on a piece of notebook paper.

It was almost the end of class when I noticed Fara looking at my drawing. Fara sits next to me and also has French class with me. She's extremely quiet and she is tall and thin. She has blonde hair that barely passes her shoulders and crystal blue eyes.

Fara looks away when she realizes that I saw her. I stuff my drawing in my binder after the bell rings and catch up with Kayla on our way to Social Studies.

I bite into my apple and see Kayla reaching our table, our other friend Hannah following her.

“Hey, guys! Wanna go bowling on the 29th?" I ask with a smirk.

“Oh, right! It'll be your fourth birthday." Hannah teased.

“Nothing is wrong with being born on a leap year!" I exclaim while Hannah and Kayla laugh at me. I bite into my apple again.

“Yeah, sure I'll go." Hannah says. Kayla agrees, too, and we decide to go to the Bowling Palace.

I can't believe my birthday is finally coming up! Three days! I think.

“Ma!" I called, unlocking the front door and entering my house. “I'm home!"

“Okay, honey! I need to leave to go to the grocery store soon. will you be okay here alone?" my mom calls back from upstairs.

“Mom. I'm almost sixteen." I rolled my eyes at her as she came downstairs.

“Nope! You're only three!" my mom teased. I rolled my eyes at her again.
