"there's a social class at this school, and you should be at the top"
I wish I could have stayed with Peter longer, but my mother had texted me to come home. Although she wasn't happy that I went over to a stranger's apartment, once I told her he was a potential friend from school, she calmed down even more.
"So is this friend from school cute?" she asked as we sat on the living room floor sharing a pepperoni pizza.
"Why can't I just be friends with anyone? Why do they always have to be cute or potential boyfriends? Can't I just be happy single, mom?" I glared at her as I took a bite of the gooey pizza.
"No need to get so defensive," she laughs," I just wanted to know if I should be weary with letting you go over to his place."
I rolled my eyes and sipped on my lavender lemonade. "Mom, I'm 15 and awkward around like everyone. There's no way that anything would happen between us."
She looked at me with questioning eyes. "You said he goes to your school, right? Does that mean he's going to walk you to school tomorrow?"
I nearly choked on my pizza. "School?" with my mouth full it definitely didn't sound like school, but she was able to get the picture.
"Of course you have to go to school, it's Monday. Not to mention that school started three weeks ago, so you'll already be behind." There was no point in trying to change her mind. Ever since the trials, she had been pretty strict on everything that I do, trying to make everything as normal as possible.
"We didn't talk about walking to school together, and I don't even have Peter's number. I'm guessing I'll just have to seem him at school."
Mom nodded. "School is only a few blocks away, but make sure you have your phone just in case."

A few blocks turned out to be about fifteen. It wasn't too far, but it definitely wasn't a walk I wanted to make alone everyday. I didn't see Peter as I was leaving the building, so I assumed he left before me since I was leaving late. If he left after me, there was no doubt he would miss first period.
There was no missing the school. Like most buildings in New York, it looked old and a little worn down. It was huge though. It took up at least four city blocks, and behind the school was a football field. A fence surrounded the school, but the main entrance was open, students pouring in looking like they'd rather be anywhere but here. I could relate. School was one of my least favorite places, right up there with court houses and hospitals.
As I walked into the school, I realized that finding the main office to get my schedule was going to be a struggle. Then I realized that finding my classes was basically mission impossible. Peter was definitely someone I could use right now.
Instead of Peter, I received stares from other classmates. Most likely because I was standing in the middle of the hallway looking like a lost puppy. Knowing that just standing wasn't going to help me, more likely to get me pushed into a locker, I followed the crowd. Although the school was big, I figured that the office would be near the front entrance. Luckily enough, I walked for a few more minutes before I landed outside the office. The hallways had cleared out since there was only a couple minutes until the first class started.
