"i'm sorry, but i have to go, it's important"
"Hey guys," I yelled from down the hall, walking faster as I saw my two best pals by Peter's locker.
Peter whipped his body around when he heard my voice. "April, how's it going?" His voice cracked halfway through his sentence and his checks went rosy. Peter leant against the lockers, one arm up and his legs crossed. He looked awkward, most likely because he was only a couple inches taller than me, and he was surprised that I showed up right behind him.
"Peter, Ned, what are you guys talking about?" I asked, bumping shoulders with Peter. Ned and Peter exchanged looks.
"Oh, nothing really," Ned started, "just talking about Peter's undying lov-"
"Ned stop talking," Peter whined, waving his arms around Ned's face. "Don't listen to him, he's crazy."
"Okay," I drawled out, "I'll choose to ignore whatever has you two in a twist, but only because I wanted to make sure we were all still on for coffee after class." Both Peter and Ned nodded. "Good, because Peter, Ned and I are both sick of you ditching us." Over the past few weeks, every time the three of us would try to hang out, Peter would end up skipping out leaving Ned and I to debate over a range of topics. The first time it had been over the best tv series from the past three years. The last time, which was two days ago, was about how long it would take for a slug to get to the moon.
Ned was so genuine it was impossible not to like him. Whenever Peter did end up leaving mid hangout, I wasn't worried about being alone with Ned. He was the best person to be friends with.
Peter shrugged uncomfortably. "I'll be there today, and I'll make sure that I won't leave half way through."
"Promise?" I held out my pinky finer like I was in second grade again.
Peter looked at it with narrow eyes but wrapped his around mine. "I promise, okay."
"You break this promise, I break your face," I narrowed my eyes back at him. The two of us held the starring contest until Ned waved his hand in between our eyes. Our hands and eyes dropped.
"So," Ned started, "we'll meet at April's locker after school."
"Yep, and then to much needed tea and coffee and blueberry muffins," I smiled. I had been craving a muffin since yesterday when someone in my world history class had one. It looked warm, and I had to stop myself from drooling.
"I can't wait until we are there just so you can have your muffin," Peter rolled his eyes.
"If you're going to be so judgmental of my want for a muffin, I won't share with you," I huffed.
