Jennie’s nerves of the past were acting up again as she stood on Danny’s doorstep, insides rattled as doubts began to fill her once more. Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to just surprise Danny like this, showing up at his house completely unexpected. Perhaps she should have called. What if she had misinterpreted his actions of earlier today? What if Danny had no thoughts of reconciling at all?
Oh god, what was she even doing here? She hadn’t even taken the time to think anything through. Jennie had acted on complete impulse after parting with Alex that she hadn’t even taken the time to consider what might have happened if things weren’t as she assumed.
Answers. She wanted answers. At least, that was what Jennie kept telling herself, but deep down, she knew better. Answers might satisfy her curiosity, which had been sparked by the sight of Eric and Elie so intimately together, but what she really wanted was Danny. She wanted his friendship.
Or no… she wanted his companionship. His love.
Jennie knew that receiving answers wouldn’t be enough. But she was selfish. She was human. She had come for everything.
But it was a tall order, asking for everything, she was now realizing. The last time she had been so foolish in believing she had had “everything” of Danny, he’d certainly done a thorough job of demoting her back to her place. What if it was all just the same? What if nothing had really changed after all?
A small voice chided Jennie, pointing out that if she would just ring the doorbell and ask Danny, there would be no need for these strings of never ending “what if’s. There would be no need to try and piece everything together. Danny could do it all for her.
That is, if he complies, the more doubtful side reminded her.
“Oh, this is ridiculous,” Jennie sighed in frustration, turning her back once more on Danny’s front door and taking a step to leave, “I shouldn’t—”
But someone must have been messing with fate because by the time Jennie had finally made her mind to leave, another obstacle prevented her from doing so.
As she turned, Jennie found herself staring into a plain, black t-shirt, with an unzipped white hoodie over it, words printed across it. Her mind wasn’t quite functioning properly so she doubted that she could make sense of the words if she tried, but those thoughts were only faint in her mind.
The person was reaching forward, body pressing slightly against hers, and before Jennie could question what they were doing, a distant buzz sounded.
Immediately knowing what had just happened, Jennie’s insides jumped as she proceeded to lose her mind all over again. The person had just rang Danny’s doorbell!
“Sh-t!” She hadn’t meant to curse out loud, but for some reason Jennie found herself doing so quite often in the past twenty-four hours. How had her life managed to change so quickly?
A rush of urgency rose as panic choked her breath, no further words able to come out. The only thought running through her mind was that she had to get out of here before Danny came and saw her.
As if the situation couldn’t grow any worse, she heard the muffled call of Danny’s familiar voice, “Coming!” It only intensified Jennie’s rush of urgency further.
My god, what was she going to do?!
She tried to escape but for some reason she didn’t seem to be going anywhere, and that was when Jennie realized that it was because the person was holding her back, restraining Jennie from running from confrontation any longer.
Jennie didn’t know whether to love them or to hate them; because a part of her grudgingly admitted that she was grateful. The desire within her to see Danny was undeniable. But what could she say?
