Amelia purposely took the seat in the car behind the driver's seat. She knew exactly which one Logan would take, and that he would be the driver. He had to be in control, and there was absolutely no way he'd allow anyone else to drive. While he still would be able to see her in the rearview mirror, he wouldn't be able to see as much as if she were in the any of the other seats.
As Mariam quietly slid into the backseat next to her she was thankful she read her partners correctly. Daniel would want to be in the front seat, and thankfully, his flirting was furthest from her. Not surprisingly, Mariam immediately opened her laptop and started working. This was perfect because the last thing she wanted was useless conversation all the way from Boston to New York City. There was no way she wanted to give Logan any more information than he already had.
Opening up her own laptop she started reviewing the schematics of the office building. She'd spent the majority of the day going over the information on Dominatus and getting equipped with the tools she would need for the mission. That was the part of the day she enjoyed the most. Discovering everything no one else in the world knew about except for them, and getting to play with them. Absently she played with the pin on the collar of her shirt which would make her face unrecognizable on any surveillance camera. Essentially, she was going to be a ghost as were the rest of her team. There would be no recorded footage of them coming or going from the office building.
The quiet drone of the car ride was only interrupted by the click of the keys on the laptops as they searched out information. This wasn't the time for fun and games, they had to have their heads in the mission, and she was thankful Daniel got it.
Daniel turned around and looked at her. "Have you gone over the plans for the office building yet?"
"Yes," Amelia said. "Why?"
"Here, let me send you this." Daniel turned back around in his seat, and with a few clicks a set of plans popped up on her screen. Opening them up she tilted her head to the side, trying to figure out what Daniel had seen that he wanted to see if she could find it too. Scanning over the plans, flipping through each floor her frown deepened.
"Something is off." Quickly she pulled up the other set of she had studied earlier and compared the two. "Where did you find this set?" She asked Daniel.
"Easy, I told you I can find out anything you've ever wanted to know. This took a bit more digging because while building plans are all scanned into the City's systems, these older building's original blueprints aren't typically in yet. It all depends on the backlog for any of the different agencies if they even have the time to get these old ones in. Obviously with a building this old there would've been renovations that were done over the years. I wanted to see if I could find the differences between what the building looks like now versus years ago. Tell me what you see as the difference."
"I see the dimensions are slightly off," Amelia said. "This right here," She turned her screen around to show Daniel and Mariam. "On the original, it indicates the building as a whole is larger than the new one. That isn't possible. You can't shrink a building."
"We need to figure out what's different between the two plans," Logan said.
Mariam leaned over to get a closer look at Amelia's screen, and she moved it closer to the other woman.
"I don't understand what you could do with such a small space." Mariam took Amelia's laptop and held it up in front of her face. "I don't understand what they could use that small of space for on every floor in that building." Clicking she moved back and forth between the buildings.
"What do you see?" Logan asked. "Use your demolition training. How to change the structure and what can be hidden."
Amelia tried to look at the same thing Mariam was, but she kept flipping back and forth between the images too quickly. Giving up she looked out of the corner of her eye and admired Logan's powerful hands on the wheel. Her mind drifted to how those hands used to make her feel loved and protected.
"I've got it,"
Mariam's excited voice startled her out of her daydream. Amelia took a deep breath, happy not to follow that train of thought any further.
"Right here." She tapped the screen. "About five feet from the west wall, on every floor is what looks to be a three foot by three-foot column. Why is that there? It isn't structural. The location is completely wrong for that. Besides, the steel beams are more than adequate for a building this size. No, there's something in there."
"This needs to be one of our priorities," Logan's firm voice left no room for argument. "This is just as important as finding out what Jay-Six was up to while he was there. We'll have an hour and a half tops between when the cleaning crew leaves and the first person shows up for work. We'll have to work quickly and efficiently."
"If only there were pictures of the inside of the building, that would certainly help. It's strange that a public office building went through all of these remodels and it wasn't published anywhere. You'd think the landlords would want advertisement." Amelia tried another search to see if she could come up with anything to help them.
Daniel shook his head. "I can't believe it either, or the fact I can't find anything. You know they have to be hiding something. There's no way they wouldn't have surveillance on everything to do with the building. I've tried every way in I can think of, and there's nothing. Either they have some new technology we haven't discovered yet, or they are completely off the internet and do things the old-fashioned way. But that won't stop me. I've got a portable storage, soon enough everything ever recorded from those cameras will be ours." Daniel grinned.
Since Daniel was going to be on his own copying, the files and Mariam was going to use her knowledge of structure and demolition to try to figure out what was in the column, which meant she was stuck, alone with Logan to search the rest of the building. She looked up almost instinctively and locked eyes with Logan's for a brief second before his eyes turned back to the road. She didn't have time to analyze her feeling right now; she had to push them aside.
Before long Logan was pulling into a parking spot two blocks from the office building. Silently getting out of the car they kept to the shadows and quickly made their way over to their target. Logan pulled out a keycard, and within a few seconds, they were in.
What do they discover in the building? Tune in next week to find out!
