Using their technology to not be recognizable on video they walked into the building not worrying about hiding their faces. Daniel immediately went to the right into a small room off the lobby where he would work his magic on the local server to see what he'd be able to download. Mariam went to the strange column on the first floor to see if she could determine what it was, then move up, floor to floor to see what it meant to each level.
Which meant Amelia was left with Logan. Taking the stairs, they went all the way up to the top floor to start their search. Based on the information they had about Jay-Six they figured there was no way he would be on any other floor but the top. The man had a super-sized ego and nothing but the best, or the top would satisfy him. There were only six levels within a couple of minutes they were faced with a door and another keypad, this one more sophisticated than the others on the different floors. Logan swiped his card, but nothing happened.
Logan tapped a button on the side of his wrist and quietly spoke. "Daniel, you see this? Can you get us in?"
"Like taking candy from a baby." Daniel's voice came through her ear piece. "Give me a second, and I'll get you in. Good news. I've already started downloading the information from their servers. Hopefully, there's something good on there for us to use."
"That's great. Still waiting to get in."
The light turned from red to green, and Logan turned the handle, and they walked through the door. Amelia cocked her head to the side and glanced around in confusion. They were greeted with a large, open space. Except for the large column in the room, there were hardly any furnishings. On the one hand, searching the place would be easy. On the other, there was nowhere to hide.
"This should be quick," Logan said.
Amelia nodded. Between a couch, chair, coffee and end tables in one corner, a round dining table in another and random low bookshelves scattered throughout the space it wasn't going to take them long.
"I don't understand it. This is wasted space. Do you know how much money this floor could rent out for? Why use it for this?"
"That's what we are here to find out. Get moving."
Taking her phone out of her pocket she took pictures of everything, from every angle before moving to the windows to record what the view was from the windows on this floor. Why was this location purchased, and why specifically was this floor practically empty, and as far as they knew based on their limited amount of surveillance not used? The possibility of something in the line of sight from one of the windows had to be the reason.
Once she finished documenting everything, she toggled a switch and started looking for heat sources.
"Will you look at that?" Logan whispered in her ear.
It was everything Amelia could do not to jump. She'd let her guard down, and he'd been able to come right up behind her. She had to remember where she was, what her job was, and keep her head in the game and not relax because she knew she could rely on Logan. In a work situation.
As casually as she could, ignoring his breath on her neck, she stated the facts. "There shouldn't be so much heat in the column. Obviously, it's not just to reinforce the structure. We have to find out what's inside it."
Logan spoke to Mariam. "What have you found out about the column?"
"Pressure plates, find the right brick on the column and it opens up to an elevator."
"How do you find the right one?"
Amelia walked over to the wall and started running her hands over various bricks to see if she could locate the one that would open the door on their level.
