Chapter 19:
(Keefe's POV)
I can't sleep...
I turn to my side, tangling myself with my blankets.
The past events were quite...frightening. After I hailed Sophie, I found a scroll in my dorm room, from the council. It was about the Neverseen returning. Almost immediately after, Biana hailed me and invited me over to Everglen. Everyone of our friends were there...except for Sophie. In order to discuss plans on how to defeat the Neverseen, we needed her. So we hailed her, and even visited Havenfield. But she was nowhere. Unfortunately by then, Grady and Edaline demanded us to go home since the Neverseen are loose, while they try to track Sophie.
Everyone was worried, but if you ask me, Fitz looked the most distressed. But we all obeyed, everyone going home. But since I hated the thought of staying with my dad in Candleshade, I returned to the Silver Tower. And guess what? All buildings were closed. All students were sent home. They really were serious about this protection against the Neverseen thing.
So now I'm here. In my too big, too fancy, three floor room in Candleshade. And I can't sleep because I'm afraid for Sophie.
When I hailed her hours ago, it seemed like she had to go somewhere...
And all this tension between Fitz, Dex and I. It's literally killing me.
You know what? That's it.
I sit up, squinting my eyes in the pitch black room. Once I can make out my imparter, I snatch it, ignoring the sudden flash of light giving me a headache.
"Show me Sophie Foster."
...
Nothing, again.
I groan in frustration.
Should I call...Fitz?
I look at the blank imparter in my hand.
Nah...
The lonely worried feeling enters my body again.
OKAY FINE I'LL CALL HIM.
"Show me Fitz Vacker."
Two seconds later, the screen blinks and there appears teal eyed Wonderboy, scowling.
"Hey Fitzter."
"Hey...Keefe."
Fitz stares at me, with a tired look. I sigh.
"Wonderboy, look. We need to talk. And I can't stand being around here, doing nothing, while Sophie might be in danger right now!"
"I'm not in danger." A brown eyed elf appears on the screen, and I freeze.
What? How... what is Fitz doing past midnight with Sophie?
Fitz smirks, and I growl, "Where are you guys?"
Sophie's eyes widen. "Keefe, calm down. We're at a...friends house. I'll tell you everything that happened in the morning, promise."
I smile at Sophie, ignoring Fitz through the screen. "Well, Foster, technically it already is morning. Three am exactly. And...I hope you're not mad at me anymore..."
Sophie frowns. "Listen Keefe...Fitz told me about the fight you had with him..."
Uh oh....
