Part One: Prologue

It's not fair.

I hear about him everywhere.

He's giving us all a bad name...

Dust Rider jostled me awake from my usual nap in 8th period, I never really hear the bell so I'm glad he sits right next to me. (Because if he didn't I probably wouldn't be able to leave on time) I rub my eyes and stand up, gripping the leather handle on my book bag, "Thanks Dusty..."

"You really shouldn't sleep in class Whistler." Rider always lectures me despite my perfect grades, not even the teachers bother me about this because I always pass anyways, "What if you miss some weird instructions because you don't sleep at night, huh?"

"I'll manage."

"I'm just saying..." I start walking out, Rider follows close behind. The teacher doesn't ever say anything unless it's during class or if asked, so I was surprised when she spoke up before we stepped out,

"Don't forget, flight exams are tomarrow."

"Agh already!?" Dusty took a pen out of his bag and wrote two lines on his wrist. "Yeash I thought I still had a week or so."

"Thanks Ms. H." I smiled and stepped out of the classroom with my brown haired friend. "Flying isn't your strong suit, want me to help you out later?"

"H- hell no, I can do it myself. I've been practicing you know." He stuffs his pen back in his bag.

"I gue-"

"-HEY!!"

"Ehh...." I turned to look at the voice that interupted mine, she looked kind of... short. "Are you addressing me?"

"Y- yes!!" She had short.... messy pink hair and brown eyes, with a brown bow tied into the back of her hair. "Are uh... are you Wind Whistler?" I nodded a bit. She deffinatly wasn't from around here, she wasn't even standing on the clouds as far is I could tell, she looked to be hovering or floating just above the surface. (She also hasn't stopped smiling once)

"Who are you?" Rider spoke up, "You look quite strange."

"Don't be rude Dusty..."

"I am princess Kathrin! Of the fire kingdom!! H- haven't you heard of me?" (She didn't look like a princess...)

"Er...." sure, I heard the fire kingdom had alot of royalty or whatever but why would I care about some princess. "I guess not, what do you want with me?"

"Well they were going to send some snobby ambassador, but when I heard they were going to Air kingdom I just had to go!!" She giggled, "They were also going to send my brother Gene," (Gene? I feel like I know that name...) "but what's the fun in that!! Well, he's not actually my brother, he's more like my cousin, but he lives with me and we've been together for a looooooong time, so who cares." (Man she's chatty....) "Anyways, I was sent to bring you to the Fire and Air Negotiation Temple to discuss what we're going to dooooooooo.... with you."

"Eh?" Dusty looked about as confused as I was, what did Fire kingdom want with... me? I'm just a nobody. "Can Rider come? He's my best friend, it wouldn't feel right without him..."

"Afraid not, this is real confidential stuff you know?"

"W- wha-?? What are you going to do with Whistler!?" Dust Rider messed with the loose button on his coat, he always does that when he's nervous.

"Eeee wellllll..... I don't actually know, I just was sent to retrieve him, and well.... it's not really optional, eather you come with me or I'm taking you."

"Well.... I don't want to piss off an entire kingdom." I was nervous of course, but I'm not going to act like Dusty does.

"What?! You can't!! What if this is like a trap!? You don't know her, she's probably not even royalty!!"

"You're good with magic right?" Keep a tracker on me or something. Besides, I need some excitement in my life, you know?" I smirked, this was definitely better then helping my cousins prepare for the flight exam.

"B- but I-"

"Also uhm... no trackers. Your friend will be fine, we're not gonna kill him or anything." Kathrin chuckled to herself, I don't think Dusty thought it was very funny though.

"I'll be okay Dusty." I patted him on the head and walked towards the strange girl, she actually looked to be my age despite the obvious height difference. "Do me a favor and tell my cousins I won't be home for training."

"Ughhh... just be careful dammit! If you end up dead I won't have anyone to talk to!!"

"Aye hehe, okay." I looked to the girl, "Sooooo... it's maditory I come huh? What're you gonna do if I don't?"

She gave me a look I cannot describe with words, it was so fucking terrifying and yet... it was all with a smile.

"N- nevermind lets just go." I opened my orange and white wings.

"That won't be necessary, I brought a carriage for safer travel. Plus I can't remember directions so it's best if we leave that up to the travel dragons..."

"Right.... travel dragons..." we had those too, it's like a really light carriage with two or more dragons leading it. "Sure whatever." I closed my wings and waved back to Dust Rider.

This should be interesting.
