Adleigh huffed throwing her body onto her brothers bed.
"I give up."
They had been searching for a cheap first edition copy of the book for what felt like an eternity. Her phone buzzed with a incoming call from Laken West, Adleigh's insane best friend and future roommate. She pressed the green answer button glowing on her screen.
"Hey L, what's up?"
"I'm trying to build this desk, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Have you gotten the books you need from your house? I'm in desperate need of your help."
"I mean I was, but someone decided to piss in Fletcher's cereal."
Laken gasped through the speaker, "What did he do?"
"Oh you know just burnt my freaking copy of Fahrenheit 451 and thought it was funny"
Laken gasped even louder and began coughing as if she choked on her own breath.
"How dare he!""I sobbed"
"I would too, hon. I'd probably beat his ass too. I found a cool bookstore near the new apartment though maybe they'll have a copy there"
"I hope. We can go when I get home. Bye Laken! I love you." Adleigh held out the you, mainly to make sure Laken knew to hang up.
"Yeah definitely! Love you too—bye."
Adleigh twisted towards her brother and started to stand up.
"Bye Fletch. You can choke on your lunch."
She hopped down her front stairs and hopped onto her yellow bike, speeding towards her new home. When she arrived, she headed straight towards the carpet. She and Laken had been too lazy to build their bright red couch, so for now laying on the plush carpet would have to do. Laken rushed down the stairs humming a little tune Adleigh didn't recognize. Laken peered over towards the girl splayed out on the floor and spoke suddenly, "You good there, Ads?"
Adleigh raised her arm up showing a weak thumbs up not bothering to speak. She slowly arose from her spot.
"You wanna go to that book store?"Laken nodded, her eyes bright with excitement.
"I went earlier without you because I was so intrigued""Is it cool?"
"Yeah, and the owner's daughter is super sweet! Her name is Elsie, I think."
"I'm down"
The pair walked in the warm spring air until they reached a large, old building with a small sign reading "Trodd's Book Nook". Adleigh was automatically shoving the door open to get her hands on all the books inside. To be blunt, the place was massive. Laken grabbed her shoulders.
"Before you go book crazy trying to find that copy, let me introduce you to Elsie."
Laken dragged Adleigh over towards a girl who looked a little bit younger than them swinging her legs off the counter she was perched on.
Adleigh did a little wave and reached her hand out to shake, "Hi! You must be Elsie. I'm Adleigh!"
Elsie grinned shaking her hand. "Nice to meet ya! I'm assuming you're a friend of Laken?"
"Not just any friend. She's my best friend," Laken interrupted.
Laken and Elsie continued to chat while Adleigh looked around the store. She saw an older couple looking through the classic literature section, a mom with kids looking for a picture book, and a boy sat in the young adult aisle with his nose shoved in a book. Her gaze was broken as Laken waved a hand across her face.
"Ads, you've got to stop zoning out."
"Yeah, whatever. I was just trying to find where my book might be."
"Sure..." Laken smirked.
Elsie spoke up suddenly, "It looked like you were staring at Fionn"
"Who's that?" Adleigh questioned.
"That's the bookstore boy."
