Adleigh tossed and turned under her duvet five nights later. Consumed by thoughts of lingering guilt and anger, the time passed quickly. The past week had been utter garbage for her. No matter what she did at work, Fionn would be rude to her, and she would be rude back. She flipped onto her side with a huff. Her clock flashed 3:00am. Sighing, she shoved her head in her pillow desperate for sleep that she had been lacking.

Fionn had also not been able to sleep. His eyelids would fall slowly, but as soon as he drifted to sleep, he'd be jolted awake. It felt as if he wasn't meant to fall asleep. He propped himself up against his headboard and reached out for his notebook. He clicked his pen once and began to write.

"For at 3am, I'm alive.
Just like the night before.
And before.
And before.
Longing to be on an adventure.
For at 3am, I'm alive.
But tethered to a bed.
Surrounded by darkness
Yet, I don't mind.
For at 3am, I'm alive.
Not just alive in breathing.
But alive in living.
With adventure in my thoughts.
With happiness in my heart.
For at 3am, I am alive."

Fionn felt his eyes droop. Writing had been able to calm him since he was barely capable of holding a pencil. Sometimes, he'd scribble his thoughts. Other times, he'd doodle his imagination. Most times, he'd just write a poem. Poems mended his soul.

Adleigh barely began to nod off into sleep when she felt the sudden urge to go onto her apartment's roof. She padded lightly over to her slippers and stepped into them clutching her phone. She grabbed her key from the bowl sitting near the front door and slowly tip toed out. Once in the hallway, Adleigh scurried to find the roof exit. She climbed the flight of stairs leading to the rooftop garden.

At the top, she propped the door open and found a place to sit. This place happened to be an eno she and Laken had set up. Her head fell back into the arrangement of pillows. The stars were twinkling back and forth as if a conversation was happening. Adleigh just stared. A chill rushed through her body snapping her out of her trance and making her cover up with a fluffy blanket. Now, instead of thoughts of anger bubbling in her head, she felt at peace. The stars consumed her, and soon she found herself finally falling asleep.

The two rivals fell asleep calmly that night not realizing how similar they were. For at 3am they were both alive.

Adleigh woke up the next morning snuggled up in her eno. The birds were chirping and the sun had began to come out. For once, it wasn't raining. She turned on her phone to see over 45 texts from Laken, Fletcher, and Elsie.

NOT Iris West
Where are you?

Fletch
Dude did u forget about our inbetweeners marathon?

NOT Iris West
This isn't funny Ads! Are you at the bookstore?

Princess Elsie
I heard you're missing please tell me you haven't been kidnapped.

And one unexpected message.

Fionn Whitehead
You're worrying everyone half to death. Not me, but Elsie, Mr Trodd, and your best friend whatever her name is. Just go back to your apartment. This doesn't mean we're friends.

Adleigh was shocked. She completely forgot to tell Laken her whereabouts. She sent a quick reply back

I'm so sorry I fell asleep on the roof. I'm coming down right now.

Then, she replied to Fletcher. Saturday's were for binging tv shows and this weekend was season one of The Inbetweeners.

Don't worry bud I'll be there in 30. I overslept sorry love u

Next was Elsie. Adleigh felt terrible that she dragged her into her idiocy.

I am alive. I just fell asleep on the roof of our apartment. Sorry for concerning you.

The next text was the hardest to send. She kept deleting and retyping and deleting and retyping. Adleigh was flabbergasted. She had Fionn's number for work, but she didn't expect him to have hers. Let alone have him text her. Sure, the text was fairly rude, but she felt like something was weird reading it. She pressed send.

Fionn's phone dinged with a text. He grabbed it off of his coffee table and gave it a read.

Adleigh Creed
I did. Thanks.

Fionn felt a wave of relief. Yes, he said he didn't care, but in all actuality if anyone were to go missing he'd be worried. Just because he swore that he hated Adleigh, it didn't mean that he wanted her dead or hurt.

Everyone felt calm for once. Laken was fine with Adleigh accidentally sleeping on the roof, Elsie was relieved that no one was dead, Fletcher got his marathon, and Adleigh and Fionn felt satisfied with their hatred towards one another. But as the saying goes, it's always calmest before the storm.
