Chapter 18

(I find it quite convenient that the guy who I sorta picture Kingston as just had a baby girl... and this is gonna be a long chapter but you will see why in a bit)

A few days later

Me and Hazel settled into the apartment just fine. Kingston went on with business but the days I had class he stayed home to watch Hazel

One day he came home and went straight to the living room but he looked more irritated than usual.

"Is something wrong?"

He sighed

"My mother called."

I froze because I knew exactly what this meant

"And she wants to meet you."

Of course

"Tonight."

"Well you said no right?"

"I can't say no to my mother." He said sheepishly

"Okay I'll go."I sighed and he smiled

"We leave in two hours. I love you." He said quickly walking to his room

He stopped for a moment realizing what he just said but then he just kept walking with his back to me

He really just said that. I was stunned for a few seconds. Never in a million years did I think he would ever think that or feel that.

I briskly walked back to my room and quietly shut the door so I wouldn't wake Hazel up in the next room.

I continued getting ready but what he said definitely gave me something to think about. Do I really love him too?"

I wore a simple green dress that tied in the front with cream colored heels. My hair was already straightened so I left that way and did simple makeup.

We had half and hour left so I woke Hazel up and put her in a shirt that was the same color as my dress and cream colored leggings. (Yes they're matching because that's cute asf)

Once she was ready we went out to the living room to wait for Kingston. He came out in his usual outfit of a white button up shirt and black pants. Typical.

His eyes lit up when he saw me and Hazel sitting on the couch and it made my heart melt

"I see you're ready." He said

I nodded my head

We all stood on the doorstep of a cute house about an hour out of the city. Neither of us rang the doorbell yet because I was too nervous.

"Well about what I said before."

"Oh it's fine if it just slipped out or someth-"

"No, I meant what I said. It's fine if you don't feel the same way but I just wanted you to know."

"Oh." I said smiling

"So is there anything I should know about your mother before we go in?"

"She will love you I'm not worried about that. She might scare you a little bit though. All it is is that she wants the best for the business."

"That sounds suspicious."

"I don't doubt she will elaborate on what I mean tonight-"

He was cut off by the door swinging open to reveal a small dark haired woman. His mother.

"My baby! I thought I heard you pull up." She said giving him I big hug

The hug went on longer than he probably would have wanted because he looked at me uncomfortably

She let go and straightened out his shirt

"I love that shirt." She said quietly still patting it

She looked at me for the first time and she also came in for a hug

"You are so gorgeous! Even better than he described!"

"In fact you look exactly like an old friend of mine."

"Thank you so much Ms. North." I said

"Dear, just call me Khalese."

"And this must be my granddaughter." She said picking Hazel up out of my arms

"You know K, she looks so much like you."

He nodded smiling at her

"Well Jesus Christ why are we still outside. Let's go inside." She said laughing

(In the middle of dinner)

Dinner was going well so far just talking about simple things like school and business

"And I'm sure you two have decided if she will take over the business one day?"

I was silent

"Mom." He warned

"I'm just giving my opinion, but I did run the business myself for a while you know. A woman CAN run it."

"Mom she still has years. We don't need to decide now."

"Your father would have wanted this."

"And he's gone so it doesn't matter."

Awkward

"It does matter."

"He doesn't run the business anymore and it is our decision. If Adelaide doesn't want her to run it then she won't."

This dinner has now become very awkward

The rest of the night there was no more talk about the subject.

We thanked his mom for inviting us to dinner and left

Okay so just as a clarification I'm gonna give you the story with Khalese

She ended up getting married eventually after her thing with Grayson to the leader at the time of the cartel. She couldn't have children so they adopted Kingston to keep the "bloodline" going. Her husband ended up dying later so she had to take over since Kingston wasn't old enough. But eventually he did take over. Kingston never really had a good relationship with his dad.
