Chapter 3

At last, she recognized the shape. It was a small cabin and it looked as if it were occupied. Debating what she would do because this could be a risk of being caught if she knocked on the door. There weren’t many other options for her, so she tried to straighten her hair and wiped the sweat from her face.

She even went as far as trying to hide her stomach with her oversized sweater. It was no use, whatever she did seemed to only emphasize her bulging stomach. She walked up to the back door and hesitantly knocked on the door. She heard nothing, besides complete silence, and decided to knock again.

This time she heard a stir within the small cabin. A timid face peeked around the curtains covering the window next to the door. “Who are you and what do you want” said the voice on the other side of the door. Knowing this could be her only chance she tried to find the perfect explanation.

“Hello, I seemed to have gotten lost in the woods. I have been wondering around for hours and cannot seem to find the main road. Could you please help me and could I possibly get something to drink?”

She held her breath, while the other women peeked through the window again assessing her from head to toe. The woman disappeared and the sound of a deadbolt unlocking sang through the quiet woods. The door swung open and as it did the pregnant women let out a sigh of relief.
