Your sickness started a little over a week after Jimin left to go on tour, with a common cold. Jimin was worried about you when you told him you weren't feeling well, but you reassured him that it's nothing. Although, this one happened to last longer than usual and it started to unease you. It seemed like no matter how many over-the-counter medication you would take, it made you worse, if even possible. This led to a growth of Jimin's concern, considering that he can't be there to take care of you. So, he begs you to schedule an appointment to the doctors, in which you complied without hesitation. Unfortunately, the trip to your doctor's appointment proved your distress to be an understatement."Ms. Y/last/n, you have stage three cancer."
Those words haunted you every where, and though you've already told your parents, you still have yet to find out how to tell your boyfriend. You lied when he asked you if there's anything wrong, biting your lip and saying that you were just using the wrong medication for the wrong symptoms. You hear him sigh in relief, and the guilt that was sprouting in your heart grew bigger.
You begged your friends and family not to tell Jimin of your condition, knowing that if he were to find out, he would drop every thing and come to be by your side. That was the last thing you wanted out of this situation; He was out living his dream -he has worked so hard to be where he is now and you're so proud of him, and you didn't want him to leave it behind just for you. Your friends & family weren't happy with your decision, but respected it anyways.
"If he doesn't know that you have cancer, then what did you tell him?" Your mother asks, arms crossed as she watches you take your new, daily pills.
You put all the pills at the back of your throat and took a huge sip of water, swallowing everything in one big gulp before you replied to her. "I told him I bought the wrong meds at the store and it made me worse, and that the doctor gave me the right set to take." You sigh as you put your cup down and look at your mother.
Your mother shakes her head at you. "You know, you're gonna have to tell him." She tells you as you goes to your side and hugs you. "And even if you don't tell him, he's going to find out eventually." Your mother adds.
You wrap your arms around her too, and you can't help but tear up at the thought of him knowing you have cancer. "I know," You whisper. "I'm just scared."
Days turned into weeks and the doctor recommended you to start chemotherapy. When the nurses shaved your hair off, that was when reality really struck you; soon, you're going to leave your parents, your friends, and most especially, Jimin. Your time living in this world was limited, and the doctors can only try to prolong your stay here. As you stayed in the waiting room for your chemo session to take affect, you would sit there, staring off into space as the devastation took over you.
Keeping up with a lie is much easier done over texts and calls than face-to-face. Texting was the easiest part, but when you guys called each other, you always had to mute your phone for a quick 3 seconds to clear your throat to make your voice seem normal before disabling mute and talking again, and when he wanted to video-chat in the daytime, you had your makeup done and your wig on before you answered the call & when he wanted to video-chat at night, you made sure the lights were dim and your wig was on, too.
Weeks turned into months and Jimin was halfway done with his tour. You were surprised that you were able to keep your sickness a secret for this long but the guilt was starting to eat you up, which didn't mix well with the depression you grew familiar with. There was bags under your eyes, your lips were white, your skin was pale, and your mind often ventured out into the fear of the worst. You frame got a tad bit skinnier, much to your dismay, and though it's only a slight difference, it made a huge impact on you. Eventually, you were too weak to get out of your house so a nurse came by to feed you your medication and treat you your chemotherapy.
