Chapter 10

A/N: Be prepared for fire.

"Happy Birthday!" I say as I hold out a cake box and a gift box.

Leo gives me a funny look and says, "It's not my birthday, N." But he opens the door to his apartment wider to let me in.

I walk in and put the cake box on the dining table.

"Well somewhere in this big, wide world, it's someone's birthday so enjoy," I say.

Leo shakes his head and has a small smile on his face. I watch him grab two small plates, forks and a knife before coming up to the table and opening the cake box. His smile grows sad when he sees the 'I'm Sorry' written in chocolate on the vanilla glazed cake. Silently, Leo takes my left hand and I grab the knife. His right-hand wraps around me and we cut the cake together.

"Open the gift too!" I say holding the small teal-colored bag out towards him.

Leo takes the bag and pulls out a small box from inside. He tears the wrapping around the box and pulls open the small jewelry box.

"It's a small knock off of that bracelet for the ultra rich but it looked cool and I thought you'd like it." He smiles and says a small thank you and puts on the bracelet on. His smile grows as the bracelet settles on his wrist.

Beautiful.

" I missed you," he says.

He missed me...

"I missed us," I reply.

"How are you, N?"

"Fine, better now, mom was with me for a couple days."

"I heard. You look good, healed, better than you looked on T.V."

I cringe at that. "Yeah, well, I'm no longer trapped in that glass bottle I was in before."

He laughs softly but says nothing. Leo looks at me.

Scratch that, stares at me. He studies me, from head to toe before holding his hand out.

I stare at his hand. What?

I hear a breath of laughter before both of Leo's hands find the collar of my jacket. He pushes it slowly down...down my shoulders...and off of me finally...We- were standing so close that I could feel his breath on me.

Leo, my Leo. My hands find his face, his strong jawline and his broad shoulders follow.

Strong, so strong and reliable.

My right hand softly lands over his heart. It's beating, I want it to beat only for me.

My Leo.

Finally, I bring myself to look at him.

"I missed you, I really really missed you." I see flickers, flickers of color. Here one moment and gone the next.

I don't break his stare as I bring my hands down. They rest on his stomach as I put my forehead against his. He hasn't moved away. He hasn't done anything, hasn't reached out to touch me but he hasn't pushed me away either.

"Like hell you did. You didn't even come and see me after you heard about the accident." I whisper not having enough strength in me to raise my voice and break this moment.

He laughs dryly then I hear an extremely soft thump before I feel his strong arms wrap around me.

This moment...I hope it never ends.

"Am I allowed to be happy for one day?" I ask him.

"Am I allowed to be selfish for one day?" He replies.
