ava's pov

i still remember the first day of kindergarten like it was yesterday. i had no friends and the teacher made me sit by this boy named corbyn. at first, I didn't know how to pronounce his name so I accidentally said corbean. from then on I called him bean for short. bean's family eventually moved in right next to us in the 2nd grade without me even knowing. during halloween corbyn and i had plans to trick or treat in 2nd grade. he told me to meet him at his house and my mom looked up the address and it was right next to us.

corbyn was only my bestfriend nothing more. i could never like him like that, gross! we were inseparable. that is until junior year. one day i went to school. i was waiting for bean to pick me up but he never did. i didn't think anything of it so i drove myself to school. i went into school and no sign of corbyn. i checked EVERYWHERE. we had most classes together and i was worried. i new for a fact he would tell me if he was sick or skipping school. i mean if he was skipping school, he would ask me to join.

i call him repeatedly and he doesn't answer. i spam him with texts and still no answer. eventually school is over and the first thing i do is go straight to his house, not mine. i barge in and ask his mom where he is. she looks shocked and says,

"Ava, dear, he didn't tell you?"

"Tell me what?"

"He moved to LA this morning. I thought he told you."

there it was. my life falling apart. he kept me stable. i have no idea what I would do without him. I had no friends besides him whatsoever. well now I guess I have no friends since he isn't here and he didn't have the balls to tell me. i notice that I was bawling. mrs. besson was comforting for about an hour until I decided to go back home. my mom noticed I was crying and I filled her in with all the details. she said she had no idea either. week after week I got more and more depressed. I had no friends and I wasn't a social butterfly. I was made fun of at school with no corbyn to save me.

there was one day i was really down and i tried to overdose but my mom caught me in time. after that my mom decided i needed to see a therapist. after a couple months of that, the therapist noticed no improvement. the therapist referred me to a doctor to see if i need medication. after that appointment i was put on anti-depressants. the medication did work and i started to get back to some kind of normal.

my family got really close with the besson's. i mean we were already close but we got even closer. i trusted that family because i knew they wouldn't judge me. i'd been on my medications for awhile now. i was getting back to normal when the unthinkable happened. (everyday after school i would go and watch corbyns younger siblings so i would walk in without knocking since his mom works from home and i never wanted to interrupt her but oh this time i wish i had knocked). i walk in and corbyn's siblings come running up to me. i greet them and give them hugs. i see mrs. besson isn't in her office. if she wasn't in her office, she was most likely in the kitchen or living room. i walk into the living room and see four boys around my age watching TV.

"um, hello? can i help you?" i say.

"well if this was your house you could, but i don't think this is your house." a tall browned hair said.

"well i'm here to babysit. so excuse me."

"why don't you knock then?" he replies.

"why are you here? i don't know who you guys are. i'm sure mrs. besson wouldn't want you guys in here without permission so leave."

just then mrs. besson walks in and says," we wouldn't want our guests to leave."

"why are you letting strangers into your house?"

"i'm not dear, this is corbyn's band."

then i see a familiar face pop out from the kitchen.

"hey it's good to see you" the figure says.

"i wish i could say the same corbyn"

i feel tears coming on so i get out of that house as quickly as i can. i run into my house and upstairs and lock my door.
