Both my parents went still, unable to process what I had just said. They gave me confused looks, but softly chuckled.
Of course as an 8 year old little girl, parents don't believe what kids say, because we're still young and are able to have uncanny and peculiar imaginations.
"Why are you laughing! It's true! I can prove it to you guys that I'm not joking!" I whined and started to pout.
They only smiled at me while shaking their heads, finding it amusing to see their daughter claiming she had brought a young wolf pup home.
"Haeri, I know how much you love animals especially wolves and would want to keep one, but please don't make your mother an I laugh or we won't be able to breath." My father spoke, patting my head, he stood up and walked towards his mini office not so far away from the dining area.
My mother followed along grabbing my half empty plate, leaning down and kissing my head.
"Go wash up and head to bed, I'll come into your room and tell you a bed time story before you sleep okay?" My mother sweetly said before disappearing into the kitchen.
I rolled my eyes, as if I were some teenager who didn't get permission to go to some night club with their friends.
Silently huffing, I dragged myself up the wooden staircases and into my room closing the door behind me.
There sat the little lone wolf on my bed who watched as I slowly slid myself to the carpeted floor.
"What am I going to do with you? My parents don't believe me and now I have a bad feeling that if I show you to them, they'll send you to some animal shelter." I mumbled pushing myself off the floor, crawling towards the pup.
"I still have to name you too.. Hmm, how about..." I lazily said before just blurting out the name that oddly slipped out of my mouth.
"Jungkook." it sounded a lot like a human boy's name but I shrugged it off looking to see if the wold had disagreed with me.
Surprisingly he didn't do anything but stared at me. I tilted my head to the side and furrowed my brows, looking straight into its icy blue eyes that sparkled before me.
"You're not gonna shake your head? You like the name Jungkook?" I squeaked, petting it's soft grey fur.
The wolf let out a small yawn and rested his head on the comfy mattress. A small smile slowly crept up my face as the beautiful animal prowled onto my pillows.
"You're even cuter when tired, okay Jungkook. I'm gonna have to take a shower, don't let yourself get caught." I pointed at him, hoping he had understood.
Grabbing my ivory towel and something spartan for me to wear before bed, I slowly walked out of my bedroom closing the door behind me, making sure he wouldn't get out.
I felt lucky to have jungkook be obedient and oblige my words whenever I told him to stay put.
After showering I almost slipped on the bathroom tiled floor, attempting to grab something in the cupboards.
I complained to myself how I was still short to grab something high out of my reach. After many failed attempts, I gave up and headed towards my room.
I heard my mother called to me that I should be in bed by now and that she'll be in my room within five minutes to read a fairytale for me.
Briskly, I took jungkook's heavy body in my scrawny arms and walked towards my half emptied toy box.
"For tonight you'll have to stay in this for now. It's not a tight place to be in. It's quite comfortable since I've slept in here three times!" I chortle as he waited patiently.
Quickly, with hasty moves, I set up something comfortable for him to sleep on.
After finishing, I lowered him on top of piles of old blankets and softly stroked his grey rich fur coat.
I slowly close the lid of the box and hopped onto my bed burying myself under the burrow of my blankets.
A couple minutes went by and my mother walked in. A warm smile cruved her lips as she seated herself at the edge of my bed feeling her hands through my carmel hair.
"Can—Can we read about how a person becomes a werewolf!" I contentedly said. Bouncing up and down on my bed, making my mother surprised about me wanting to hear the story she once read to me when I was only five.
"Alright Haeri, but don't bounce on your bed." She softly spoke and I stopped myself. I quickly nodded my head understanding,!waiting to hear the story while my eyes enlarge.
"Now listen closely and try to memorize all these information inside your little head." My mother said in a hushed tone, before clearing her throat and starting away. "Lycanthropy either gets handed down from parent to offspring or received through a bite. When bitten. First comes a fever and body aches. Which will take a weaker beings life. If survived — However, one will transform during the next full moon. With time. The shift from person to wolf grows less painful and can even be done if the wolf is proficient enough." My mother said her smile not leaving her face.
My mind didn't know what the word lycanthropy meant, I knitted my brows wondering what it means. "Mommy what does lycanthropy mean?" I asked curiously pushing myself off my back and went into a sitting position.
"Lycanthropy means a supernatural transformation or a wolf." She explained and I slowly nodded. Offspring was the word I was wondering as well.
"What does offspring mean? Oh wait I know! Does it mean the wolf gets a day off of spring?" I wondered with a joyful smile, giggling. My mother joined along with my giggles and pinched my cheek in awe.
"No sweetie, offspring means a person's child or children." She explained to me. I let out a 'Oh' and nodded with a yawn slipping out of my mouth. "It seems like little miss haeri is tired, I'll tell you the rest tomorrow." I groaned wanting her to tell me more.
"It's past your bedtime as well and we need to get up by eight to visit grandma at Seoul, in Bukchon Hanok Village." My mother said while parting me head. My eyes lit up with happiness, gasping in surprise.
"We're going to visit grandma!" I exclaimed. She nodded before leaning in and giving me warm kiss before whispering a "goodnight" and closing the lights in my room.
The moon shown down at me as the crescent moon sparkled.
I looked towards the direction of where Jungkook was sleeping. A smile formed onto my lips. I wondered what he would be like when he's an actual adult male wolf.
Maybe he will start a family of his own, raise a pack and being the alpha lead wolf and one day I may see him again in the woods with his pups an female mate.
But little did I know, that's not how I thought it would turn out to be.
