Rubbing the crease fabric between my fingertips. I straightened my hoary silken night gown, that draped mid thigh. Hovering over my parents bedroom door, as they argued about something with hushed voices. I snuck a glance at the clock ticking in the hallway.
My curiosity was building up inside of me, eagerly wanting to know what they were up to. But in my shock, the door forcefully swung open, revealing both my parents having puzzled expressions. A loud and nervous gulp was heard, coming from me.
"Haeri? Why are you here? What are you doing here?" My father questioned first, brows furrowing together with a stern and serious look. Cold sweat ran down my back as I took a step backwards, slowly forcing myself to bring up a small, weak smile.
"I-I.. um, well.." I quickly tried coming up with an excuse for so I wouldn't get myself in trouble. "I was actually.. just wondering, if dinner was.. ready?" Great Haeri what a lame excuse! You screamed to yourself.
But both my parents didn't seem to see trough the clearly dumb lie. They both heartily let out a small chuckle, while mother gently stroked the top of my head. Her dazzling warm and caring brown eyes stared right into my dark onyx ones.
"Sweetie, if you were hungry, why didn't you just knock and let us know?" She asked pulling her hand away from my head, wrinkles forming on her once young and youthful face. My father stood still and silent, closely scrutinizing his beautiful wife and daughter both socializing.
"Sorry mother.. I just didn't want to bother you and dad.. since it seemed, very.. important." My voice cracked at the ending, feeling tears form in my eyes. Of course I heard every bit of their conversation, and I could clearly recall what they've said.
"Let's divorce. It's for the best of us and for Haeri. She can't suffer through us always arguing and disagreeing everyday and night."
My mother's smile faltered quickly. She suddenly hugged my small form squeezing the life out of me, while father joined in. I held back my tears, nuzzling in my parents warm loving embrace.
"W-why?" I asked, quietly, but loudly and clearly for them to understand what I've said.
A deep sigh escaped fathers' lips, taking steps back breaking the small group hug. Mother mimicked the same actions as father and moved back. My tears glistened in the light, eyes burning red.
"It's.. just not working out. When you had graduated from high school and entered a university to consume your dreams.. things seemed to crumble down, me and your mother had a very hard time trying to make you feel loved and happy, but the both is us were only doing this to keep you from worrying about... our relationship together." Father explained.
My heart shattered to pieces, are they actually serious about this? Are they wanting to file the divorce papers and just... call it off? But what about me? Have they never thought about how I would feel about this whole thing?
"Then what about me? Where am I supposed to go? How am I supposed to live without you both there to support me?" I asked each sentence with a cracked voice.
"Your mother and I have both come to a conclusion of you choosing whoever you'd like to live with." Father said cupping his big hands with mines. "We'll still be there to mentally love and support you, but just not physically anymore..." He continued.
All these new and horrifying situations, had already entered my train of negative thoughts.
Why did this have to happen to me?
Little did I know, a shadowy male silhouette from the shadows, was eyeing the whole scene in silence.
"Just wait for me Jung Haeri, just a little more.."
