love pt ii.

love is a strange thing

so many meanings

so many ways to say it

'i love you'

said to you as you are born

being held in the arms of your parents

if you are lucky

it's repeated until you lose them

but you never stop loving them 

'i love you'

said to your friends as you embrace

after they say something stupid

and you all burst into laughter

it burns brightly in your voices

this love you hold for each other

'i love you'

said to the person your heart bursts for

and you pray they say it back

if you're lucky

you will say it to each other 

for the rest of your lives

but it is complicated

how do you tell the difference

between platonic love

and romantic

is there even a difference

is your soulmate the person you marry

or is your soulmate the person who knows you best

sometimes they are the same

sometimes they are not

how are we to know

maybe that's the trick

we are not meant to know

we are just meant to love

so trust your heart

and that will be enough
