apartment b16.

i jerked awake when i heard thunder clap outside my window. i reached for my phone and saw that it was almost four in the afternoon.

i felt someone shift beside me and i smiled when i saw lukes sleeping face. i traced my thumb along his lips which made him stir in his sleep.

he squinted his eyes at me. "hi, sleepy head."

"what time is it?"

"four in the afternoon." i pushed a few curls back from his eyes.

luke stared at me for a moment before taking a deep breath. i smiled at him and he smiled back. his hand rested on my thigh, just below the scars. i wasn't ashamed of them anymore, they were pretty faded. it still hurt to think about the haunting memories, though.

"what are you thinking about, baby?" luke whispered, curiosity in his baby blue eyes.

"my scars." i said honestly, but quietly.

"you know you're scars don't determine who you are. just where you've been and how far you've got to go." luke stated while softly touching the faded lines.

"i know."

he gently placed his lips on mine as a flash of lightning lit up the room. a smile spread across my lips as his hand squeezed my butt.

"thank you for coming back to me." i breathed.

"anything for you, darling."

"wait, so you're telling me that you guys didn't do anything? you only kissed?" annie questioned, disbelievingly.

"yeah, that's right."

ariella looked at me incredulously. "i don't believe you. i think you're lying."

"i'm not lying and luke isn't like that. plus, i didn't want to ruin anything. it was so calming being there with him, guys." i sighed, relishing the mornings feeling.

"well," ari started as she was handed her food, "from what you've told me now and previously, it sounds like luke is a good thing for you, lindy."

we all agreed and began eating our food as the storm continued outside. annie had so many college stories, new and old. it was fascinating how she had new stories to tell and we'd only saw each other two days ago. sometimes it made me wish i went to college, but at the same time it just doesn't feel right.

the car ride home was quiet other than ari's occasional humming. as we neared the complex, my stomach began to tighten and my fingers tingle. i closed my eyes and took slow breaths as annie's car came to a halt.

"do you wanna come hang out for a while lin?" ariella asked quietly.

i shook my head, eyes trained on my feet. "no thanks, i'm not feeling the greatest."
