When It's Dark Out

It was a little after ten, and I had just finished fixing my hair. My dark brown hair was flowing down my shoulders in effortless waves, even though they weren't very effortless. I quickly slipped on my heels and my signature gold jewelry before grabbing my clutch and heading towards the door. "Okay, keys, clutch phone, charger..." I mumble, making sure I had everything.

I lock my door behind me, taking the elevator down and meeting Neil downstairs. "Gorgeous as always, Lily." "Aw, thank you, Neil. You're the best." He smiles, opening the door to the Range Rover for me and ushering me inside. I buckle my seatbelt, and Neil quickly gets inside. "I sent you the directions to the party earlier, right?" "You did! I've got them all right here." Neil pulls them up on the navigation system, showing them to me. "We have to make one stop on the way and pick up, Nicole." "Not a problem." He says, pulling away from my apartment building.

We get to Nicole's and she comes out a few minutes later, jumping into the backseat next to me. "Okay, sorry that took so long." She says slightly out of breath. "What's up? You sound winded?" "Oh, " she laughs, "you see the elevator stopped working, so I had to take the stairs and get a nice work out in." I laugh, shaking my head.

We arrive at the party about ten minutes later at this huge house out in the Hollywood Hills. It's nearly eleven and the party's pretty packed. We walk in, and I spot Alex across the leaving room chatting with a few of his good friends. I walk up to Alex and grab his shoulder. "Hey Lily!" He turns to me and give me a big hug. "Hey! It's been a while!" "Ay, Alex, is this your little sister?" One of his friends asks, "she fine as hell" he mumbles to the guy next to him before they both start laughing. "Yes, I'm the one and only, Alex's sister." They all laugh. "Lily, this is Nick, Drake, Tes, and as you already know, Kendrick." "It's nice to meet you all!".  I turn to Kendrick and smile, "It's been quite a while! Haven't seen much out of you!" He laughs, pulling me into a hug. "I know, Lily! We all gotta hang soon! You gotta come around more often." "I promise I will." We both pull out of the hug and I turn to leave. "I'll catch up with you later, Alex. Have fun. Love you."

I grab Nicole's hand and head towards the bar. "We need drinks!" I grab the attention of the bartender, "Two vodkas, neat." I wait until he passes me our drinks, giving one to Nicole. We quickly down them, filling them right back up again. We drink a bit more and eventually set them down and move onto the dance floor.

"Looks like you've got someone interested." Nicole says. "What?" "Over there." She gestures with her head. I look over towards the bar and make eye contact with Gerald. He's with a big group of friends but he only seems to be interested in me. Nicole bumps me. "Go!" She smirks. "Go, 'get yourself a man'." I laugh, making my way towards the bar.

I decide to pass him and grab something to drink instead. Moments later, Gerald's leaning against the counter next to where I'm ordering my drink. "Hey" he says, smiling at me. "Hey! You're Gerald, right?" He laughs, "You bet. How'd you know?" "Well, for one you're easily recognizable," I smirk, " and two, I'm Alex's sister." "Oh shit, no way! You're Lily! Infamous." I laugh, taking a sip of my drink.

"Sorry for staring you down earlier, I just couldn't help myself." He looks me up and down, slightly biting his lip. "Mhm, that's what they all say." I laugh. "Let's move away from the bar."

We go over to a couch near the bar and Gerald sits down right next to me, his leg touching mine. "So, are you a big part type?" He asks, taking a sip of his whiskey. "Sometimes, I like the social aspect of it. It's some of the few times I get to see Alex, so it's our version of hanging out, even though we obviously aren't hanging out." I glance around the room, making eye contact with Alex. He looks between Gerald and I and raises an eyebrow. I grab Gerald's hand and point towards where Alex is. "See? He's already questioning us hanging out together." He laughs, and turns me grabbing his hand, into us holding hands. I look down and smile softly, before asking him about the music industry. We swap stories, and shamelessly flirt.

After a while of talking, I get up off the couch. "Wait, where are you going?" Gerald grabs my wrist gently. "Just to the bathroom, don't worry. I'll be back. If I'm not back in a few, send help. I might have gotten lost." I jokingly say. "Alright. I'll make sure to rescue you." He responds, laughing.

I find my way to the bathroom which is surprisingly empty. I quickly go to the bathroom, and then fix my hair and touch up my lipstick in the mirror. "Mmm you go, girl." I mumble as I look myself up and down. I check my phone and notice I have a few missed calls from my best friend, Hayleigh, back home in Illinois. I step out of the bathroom and go around a corner into a dimly lit, quiet hallway. "Perfect. I can call her back." I try to call her a few times, but no answer. I look down at my phone trying to text her when I hear the sound of a wolf whistle and footsteps approaching me.

My heart stops for a moment, I slowly look up to meet the eyes of a man I've never seen before. "Oooh, baby girl you are looking goood tonight." "Yeah whatever. Thanks." I say, crossing my arms. "What's with the hostility, I'm just making conversation." He steps closer to me, uncomfortably close. "Yeah, I've just really need to go." I nervously laugh and try stepping towards the side to get away from him. Both of his hands immediately land on either side of my waist, pushing me back against the wall. "There's no rush. Why won't you talk to me?" I shove him as hard as I can with no luck. He moves his hands to pin my arms. "Well now you're forced to talk to me." "Get off of me!" I yell, struggling against his strength.

"Shhhh." He whispers, placing a hand over my mouth, and using his body to pin me against the wall. "No need to yell, I just want to talk to you, beautiful." My eyes dart around, looking for anyone, anything to help me. I hear a voice call out. "Lily? Are you alright?" It's Gerald. I hear him knock on the bathroom door and continues to call for me. I look towards where I turned down this hallway, hoping he'll turn the corner. Moments later, he does. "Gerald!" I try to scream around this guy's hand. "Lily? Lily!" He rushes over. "Aye, bitch! What the fuck do you think you're doin' with her?" He shoves the guy off of me and punches him in the jaw. I drop down against the wall, tears running down my face. A couple of Gerald's friends come running. "Just fucking get rid of that guy! He needs to be arrested." He tells his friends, who immediately step in and start taking care of things.
