Night Out

After my errands, I hurry home to get ready. It's already five and I still have to shave my legs. I quickly hop in the shower, shaving my legs as quickly as I can. "If I hadn't wasted so much time in Micheal's today looking at craft supplies I wouldn't be in such a rush." I angrily mumble to myself.

I finish shaving my legs, stepping out of the shower and wrapping myself up in a towel. I wander over to my closet, humming along to Childish Gambino's "Shadows". I sigh heavily as a flip through my racks of clothes. "I have absolutely no idea what to wear." I decide to grab my phone and FaceTime Nicole for her opinion. The call only gets about two rings in before I'm met with Nicole's cheerful face. "Hey Lily! What's up?" "Okay, well I'm supposed to be going on this date with Gerald in like in an hour and I have no idea what to wear. Can you help me? Please?" Nicole giggles before agreeing to help. "Okay, well you went with black before so let's change it up." She pauses for a few moments, clicking her tongue. "Ooooh!" She says, perking up. "You know that blush pink dress you have? The one with the scoop back and comes right above your knees? You should totally wear that." I groan, "Eh, I don't know Nicole. I haven't worn that in a while..." "Oh just try it on, Lily. I promise you will like it."

I reluctantly agree, digging through my closet and eventually finding it. I slip it on, looking at myself in my mirror. "Oh wow, Nicole. You were right." I say, turning back and forth to look at myself. "Ha! See? I told you! What would you do without me?" We both laugh, before I have to hang up on her and get ready.

I put on a pair of three inch nude heels with a strap across the ankle. I put on a silver bracelet and a matching necklace. As I'm putting in my earrings I hear the doorbell ring. I glance at the clock in my room. "7:00 my ass, it's only 6:47" I mumble, quickly heading towards the front door. I open the door, greeting Gerald. "Hey! You're early!" I smile, propping the door open with my foot and putting in my other earring.

"Sorry, I was already nearby and I just couldn't wait any longer to see you." He looks me up and down, shaking his head. "God...you're just so gorgeous.." He pauses before reaching for the small of my back and pulling me in for a kiss. I giggle and push him away.

I usher him in closing the door softly behind him. "Y'know..being like" I glance at the clock for the time, "12 minutes early has really thrown off my 'pre-date hyping myself up' routine. Very inconsiderate I think" I laugh, winking at him. "You have a whole routine to hype yourself up before a date?" Gerald says, stifling a laugh. "Oh yes. It's very serious. How else could I possible get through an awkward date without it?" "You're truly something else, Lily, and I mean that in the best way possible". He says as he sits down on my couch.

"Let me grab my last few things and I'll line ready". I walk out of the living room towards my bedroom to grab my phone and purse. I can't tell you the last time I've been able to be this sarcastic with a guy and they've been able to handle it. Usually they get offended or can't understand that I'm joking, but with Gerald, we just click.

I grab my phone off my bed and a small clutch, taking a quick look in the mirror. I smooth out my dress, smiling at my reflection. I haven't felt this happy or confident in myself in a while, it feels nice. I feel content with being me.

I rejoin Gerald in the living room, greeting him as I return. "Are you all hyped up now? Or should I go stand outside the door and give you more time?" He says with a smile as he gets up off the couch and walks towards me. "Oh no, I think I'm good now. I mean, have you seen me? I look pretty good" I say smiling at him. "Oh I have seen you" He says placing his hands on my waist, "you're absolutely beautiful". He leans down, kissing me deeply.

G pulls back, giving me a soft smile and grabbing my hand. "Come on, cutie. Let's get dinner". I follow him as he leads me out the door.

It's a beautiful evening downtown. It's a warm evening, with a slight breeze to keep you cool enough. He's brought us to one of the most exclusive restaurants in town, it's situated on a rooftop in the center of the city. Surrounded by lights and calming music.

At our table, G looks at me as I'm glancing over the menu. "Please tell me you're not going to just order a salad and eat three bites before telling me 'you're full'",he says smiling. "And what if I did? Are you dictating my choices now?" I respond, teasingly. "of course not, Lily. You know that. I'm just having fun." I smirk at him as the waiter approached our table.

"What can I get started for you guys tonight?" He asks, glancing between me and Gerald. Gerald gestures for me to go first. "I'll have..." I softly click my tongue, thinking "the smoked salmon please". I close my menu, handing it to the waiter. "And you?" He looks at G, waiting for an answer. Gerald quickly glances over the menu before closing it, "I'll have the salmon, too". The waiter takes our menus and walks away.

"Oh, so not only are we dictating my choices now, but copying me, too?" He laughs and rolls his eyes, "Well," G pauses, "maybe I just really like the salmon."

As the night continues, we slowly finish dinner and leave the restaurant.

Gerald opens the car door for me as I slide into the passenger seat of his vintage, black Mustang. He gets inside, smiling over at me. "Dinner good?" He asks. "Fantastic, thank you again"

He decides we should go for a night drive and see the lights of the city, something neither of us get to do often. "You know..." I say, "Alex was grilling me a bit about you today".

G glances over at me quickly, his eyebrows raised  "Oh? Is he made at me?" He mumbles something slight under his breath that I couldn't quite get. I laugh, "Oh, yeah...livid". We come to a stop at a stoplight and he looks over again, a bit more worry in his eyes. "Come on Lily, you're fucking with me, right?" He pauses, scanning my face, "Right?" He says a bit softer, but still pleading.

"Oh, G" I smile at him, "of course I'm kidding. He just wants to make sure you're being a good guy and all. Especially after that incident and, you know" I pause, "the whole 'big brother' thing".

He sighs in relief, letting out a bit of a laugh as he starts driving again. "You had me worried there, girl"  he shakes his head, "I can't have your brother hating me. That'll ruin my whole plan!"

"Your whole plan" I tease, "What plan?"

"You'll just have to wait and see" He says with a wink
