Just a Dream?

All of a sudden we were at the bottom of the chair.

Me: what the-?
Karey: It's a shame you won't let us take one last ride-
Operator: No. I could get fired.
Karey: Couldn't you be naughty just for us?
What's going on?

Operator: ... Ok... One ride.

The operator goes inside and flicks some switches turning on the chairlift. Karey looks back to us and winks.

Operator: Go. Before I change my mind.

Me: Ysabela...
Ysabela: Yeah?
Me: Something's very wrong.

Everyone quietly celebrates and scoots over to the pads.

Dave and Sarah step in front of Robyn and Karey.
I've been here... I've seen this before...
Me: Now Sarah says-
Sarah: Can we please go first?

Robyn: Well I-

Dave: When she says that she means-
Me: -we are going first.
Dave looks at me confused.

Dave: Yeah... What she said?
Robyn: Ok?
The operator looks at Dave.
Operator: That dude's pretty beefy, you're gonna need a lot of weight on the opposite side to balance it out.
Everyone turned to Morgan who sighed and stepped forward to the loading platform.
Me: Ysabela it's happening...
Ysabela: What's happening?
Claire: I'll go with Ysabela by ourselves at the back.
Ysabela: One sec!
Ysabela turns back to me.
Ysabela: What has gotten into you?
Me: Something's- Something's gonna....
Operator: Keep your hands and feet inside at all times, do not swing the chairlift. Once you get on there is-
Me: -no turning back...
Ysabela: Fine, if you don't want to talk, I don't want to listen.
Me: We gotta go now!
Karey: Jade, it's your turn.
Me: Stop the chair!
I screamed at the top of my lungs. The operator gasps and slams an emergency stop button.
Operator: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What's happening?
Me: We need to go now!
Everyone looks at me in confusion.
Jake: Why... What's wrong?
Me: The whole chair is gonna collapse!
I turn to Karey.
Me: We're all going to die if we don't get out of here now!
A look of concern floods Karey's face.
Karey: Jade, do you need to sit down for a minute?
Dave: What the fucking problem!
He yanks up the safety bar and jumped out of his chair.
Sarah: Dave! What are you doing?
Kayla: Guys, just calm down-
Claire: And eat tacos!
Brandon: Guys shut the fuck up, I'm tryna watch this shit go down.
Operator: Miss, what's going on?
I feel frantic, I saw us die!
Me: Ysabela, you gotta believe me!
I grabbed Ysabela and yank at her accidentally stumbling backward into Robyn.
Robyn falls backward into the snow.
Robyn: YOU BITCH! What the hell is wrong with you?
I turned to see Dave charging towards me. He shoves Alice out of the way.
Benji: Hey! What the fuck man?
Dave turned to face Benji who shoves him, Dave shoves him back with stronger force.
Alice: Leave him the fuck alone you imbecile!
Sarah gasped.
Sarah: DAVEY!
She jumped out of her seat and races over to coax him away from Benji.
Sarah: It's ok sweetie. We'll go get some hot cocoa! You love hot cocoa!
Dave: Well... Yeah....
Sarah: Let's get some hot cocoa!
They head off.
Dave: This isn't over, Jade!
Jake: You know what? Fuck this.
He lifted up his safety bar and jumped out.
Jake: Alex, let's go. We'll come back tomorrow.
Alex: ... Sure, whatever.
They click off their skis and begin to walk towards the Cafe.
Me: We have to get off the resort now, please...
Everyone ponders my suggestion.
Benji: Yeah, sure... I don't really feel like going up the mountain anyway.
Karey: Well, I'm going whether you guys like it or not.
I felt my heart stop.
Me: Karey, please don't!
Karey: Jade this isn't like you. If you want to leave, whatever.
Karey gets into the chair and pulls down the safety bar. It makes a strange click.
Me: No, you don't understand...
Kayla: Morgan, let's get out of here.
Morgan: I'm hungry anyway.
The two hopped out and began to make their way to the cafe.
Claire: I'll come with!
She shuffles after them.

The only people left seated on the chair were Karey, Jimsey and Brandon.
Jimsey turns to Brandon.

Jimsey: I'm going.
Brandon: Aw, what? And miss the action?
Jimsey: Not to the hotel, just to go talk to Jade and Ysabela.
Brandon: Whatever.
He got out and walked over to my side with Benji. Alice grabs Benji's arm.
Alice: C'mon babe, leave it.
Benji: I'm not leaving Jade like this.
Alice: Why would you care? You don't give me that kind of treatment.
Benji snaps.
Benji: Alice, what is with this jealousy stuff lately? Jade is emotional, I'm trying to be here for her.
Alice: SHE is not your girlfriend, I AM!
Benji: She is my friend! Friends help friends, that's what they do!
Alice: Fuck you.
She stormed over to the chairlift in a huff.
Benji: Where are you going?
Alice: Away from you.
Benji: What is wrong with you!?
Alice didn't say another word. She jumped up into a chair and yanked the safety bar down with all her strength, it also made a weird click sound.
Alice: Have fun with Jade.

Everyone had gone back to the cafe except Karey, Brandon, Alice, Robyn, Benji, Ysabela and I.

Operator: You kids need to stop wasting my time! Are you going or not?

Just as the operator finishes talking a rumbling began.
Benji: What was that?
Ysabela: Uh oh...
Ysabela's eyes widened as she stared up at the mountain.

I looked to Brandon and saw a look of horror on his face.
Brandon: FUCKING HELL!!!!
He jumped out of his chair and he and Ysabela began running, everyone else started to notice.
Ysabela: AVALANCHE!!!!
Karey: Oh my god...
Me: Karey, let's go!
She yanks at her safety bar but it doesn't budge.
Karey: It's stuck!
Alice begins yanking at her safety bar.
Alice: So is mine!
Karey: Help!
I instinctively run over and begin yanking at Karey's safety bar. It doesn't budge.

Me: NO!

Benji ran over with Robyn to Alice's chair and they begin yanking.
Robyn: It's--- STUCK!---
The operator is standing in shock staring at the mountain. I turn to him.
Me: We need something to leverage this!
He doesn't respond.
Me: HEY!
Operator: Huh?
I sigh and run into the operator's booth. The operator follows.
Me: Have you got something to open the chairs?
Operator: Uh...
He's in total shock. Luckily I notice a crowbar leaning against the wall. I grab it and run out of the booth, slamming the door behind me, the operator still inside. He tries to open the door but nothing happens.
Operator: No, WAIT!
I look back.

Me: What the -?

The Operator bangs on the door.

Operator: Help! The door is jammed!

I looked over at my sister then back to him.

Me: I will come back for you!

I run over to Karey.

Karey: What are you doing?
Me: MOVE!

I slammed my crowbar into the handle and force the rail to break.

Me: Let's go!
Karey: What about him?
She points to the operator. I throw the crowbar and it smashes through the booth window so the operator can free himself.

We run over to Alice and I turn around to see
the avalanche now quickly making its way down the mountain face.
Robyn: Holy shit!
Alice: Help me! Please!
Me: Hold on!

That's when I felt my heart stop...
We had moments to get back to the cafe, Alice was stuck, and my only way to save her...
was currently on the ground surrounded by shards of glass in the operator's booth.
