Not again. I'm not losing her again. I jump out the window and grab the rags which are know splitting, I grab Oriel's ankle just in time. But to my dismay, cranks flood the outside of the building and Oriel dangles right ably with them I look over to see a window, in fact the only one with glass "Damn it," I mutter "sorry Oriel," I cringe as she soars through the glass shattering it and entering the fourth floor.
For me to jump from the end of the rope would be risky but I need to get Oriel to safety and leaving her there unconscious is not an option. I change my grip to the very end of he rope and start swinging so I can get to the window. My hands are slick with sweat and kneeling a solid grip is hard. My hands slip and I fall luckily forward but I can't go through the window I clench my teeth and clutch on to the window sill shrieking as the shards of glass puncture my skin. Blood soaking my hands increases my chances of falling
I hear a distant voice someone far away maybe on the the sand dunes, "Paxton!" She says. My shoulders are tense and as I move my hands to different sections of the ledge my feet find bricks protruding from the wall. My blood and sweat covered hands have little to none of grip I can't climb into the window. All I feel is the sensation of slipping and the fire as the glass on the windows edge tear my hands open fresh blood painting the windows red. I hardly breath and I feel myself start to slip until I hang by my fingers blood falling forty feet - a fall that might kill me - to merge with the sand below. I swear to myself, how could I leave Oriel to die like this? I try to heave myself over the glass, my hands numb from the pain, I try to find a hold for my foot but my beat up shoes just run down the rough wall. One hand drops to my side, the pain threatening tears in my eyes. I whisper "I'm sorry, Oriel" and let go.
