Kaldur's  Pov

Once the team had left, Tula and I quickly ran for the shoreline, diving once more into the ocean. Our old home...

It was quite difficult to follow Black Mantas troops at first, but we did pursue. We treated it like recon, and kept our distance. We were going to follow until we new what they were after.

After about thirty minutes off the coast, the sub stopped outside of a small air pocketed cave. Tula and I must have had the same thought. Someone was in there.

"She we keep following, or should we radio the team?" Tula whispered.

"If we radioed the team we risk our coms being intercepted. I believe as long as we stay hidden, we should get the intel then leave. " I reply.

She nods, and we quickly swim to the air pocketed cave, without being noticed. As soon as we surface we climb up onto a rock that is well hidden from the open cave.

After further inspection, the cave had dozens of ships docked and more than one hundred soldiers. Not all were Manta's though.

"It appears there is some alliance between Black Manta and these other groups, although I am uncertain who they carry out under. Do you recognize their uniforms?" Tula whispers.

" It would seem as if they were from the surface world, their armor is merely a brute scuba suit. The suits seem to be provided by Manta based on the design and technology, but aside from that, I am clueless as to who they take orders from." I quietly respond.

"Should we report back to the team? "

"No, we need to know what they are planning, who our mystery leader is."

We crawl quietly, along the edge of the cave, and eventually climb up to an overhang to get a better view. Black Manta emerges from a group of his men and begins to speak.

" The mission was a success. The junior justice is suspicious. What is the next stage."

"That my friend, is when we all take on our individual assignments." A man says in a slightly deep voice.

Vandal Savage.

It appeared to be that The Light had reassembled to continue to wreck havoc on this world. We should have left the cave then and there, but I was curious as to what the rest of their plan was.

"Speaking of which, Black Manta, I believe you got the attention you needed. Your assignments are here." Savage said glancing up at Tula and I with an evil smirk.

Tula and I begin running for the water, attempting to escape. We were outnumbered and there was no way we could out-swim the subs, that doesn't mean we didn't try. We jumped in to the water hearing Manta shout behind us and troopers following.

We started swimming as fast as we could, Tula attempting to shield us with her magic. I decided to radio the team, no need to worry about interception.

They knew we were there.

Zatanna's POV

Honestly I was super bored. Robin and Batman had an emergency in Gotham after the debrief, Artemis went to go check on her mom, Kaldur and Tula left on a covert mission, Raquel went out on a date, Wally went to see how many restaurants he could eat at before 10:00 pm, Conner and Garfield are with M'Gann in the med bay, so I'm all alone.

Sure I could check up on M'Gann, but I decided it'd probably be best to wait for Kaldur and Tula. Maintaining radio silence is important, but in case of an emergency...

It had been forty minutes before anything happened. Wolf walked in from his nap on the couch to a nap in the debrief room. Sighing I sat down, reciting some old spells my dad had used around our old house. Dad...

My thoughts are quickly interrupted by a transmission from Kaldur. Immediately I knew, the mission went wrong.

"Aqualad to team, can anyone read me?!" Kaldur shouts over his cons. I hear muffled booms in the background and the sound of rushing water. He and Tula must be trying to swim away.

"Aqualad this is Zatanna, what's going on?"

" The mission went bad, they were expecting us. It was a trap. Aquagirl and I may not return."

"Aqualad, just hang tight, I'll call in all available team members and Aquaman, I'll see what leaguers are available too. We'll get there as-"

" There is no time! I only radioed to report what we have discovered." Kaldur quickly sums up what happened.

He sent the coordinates to Manta's cave, explained the part about the lights reassemble, Vandal Savage, and how they had these "assignments" and that Kaldur and Tula were apparently Manta's assignments.

"Zatanna, do not search for us. Take this information and find out what they are planning. Remeber th-" and a brief  explosion on Kaldur's side of the coms, his radio goes dead.

Soon after the transmission had abruptly ended, Aquaman zeta beamed into the Cave looking distraught. I gave him one look and he knew...

They were gone.

Hello my fantastic readers! Sorry this is a short chapter... and it's a lot later than I said. Believe it or not, I've been working on this since my last updated! Now I know what your thinking,

There is no way she killed off Kaldur and Tula. All I can say is that they will definitely reappear in this book, but I can't guarantee you how. TBH idk if they or dead or not.  They may just have gotten captured or they are dead and they'll just be in dreams/flashbacks.

Keep reading to find out so I can keep writing to find out lol. Since this is a short chapter I'll try my hardest to update another chapter by late Monday or Wednesday. Btw happy eclipse Americans! Im gonna watch from a mountain!

Btw this is the part of the story where the team begins to fall apart. Who will be next???? Until next time my lovelies!
