Pain in the Head

I can't open my eyes, something is covering them.

I hear voices, though their drained out. I can't hear what they're saying. They're behind something.

I feel around me. Soft cloth is beneath me. Am I laying on a bed?

I try to sit up and a jolt of pain runs through my spine. I let out a yelp and lay myself back down.

I reach up to my face, feeling around my eyes and head. A rough cloth is wrapped around tightly. I feel the side of my head, which the most pain comes from. I yelp from pressing on it too hard, some wetness forms around where I touched it.

The voices stop and someone opens the door. I hear their steps getting closer to me.

"Hello?" I say in curiosity.

"Hello Amy. I see you're awake finally." The voice says.

I look in the direction the voice is coming from. Sounds like a guy's voice... Where am I?

"Um.. Where am I? I was just home a minute ago..."

"Oh, haha. You were actually just home 2 days ago. You're in the hospital, a bat took you in and explained you fainted and knocked your head pretty dang hard into the floor." He says in a jokingly manner.

Two days...? It's Monday.. I'm missing class! And why did Rouge come over?

"Oh no.. Sir, I can't miss school! I have an important test to take!" I try to get up, yet another jolt of pain zaps at my spine. I yelp and lay myself down again, letting out a defeated sigh.

I hear the man grunt, his hand feeling around my bandages. He examines the side where, I'm guessing I hit my head.

"Did you press on this side too hard?" He asks seriously.

I nod, and I hear a quiet sigh come from him.

"I have to change your bandages, keep your eyes closed. The brightness of this room might hurt them."

I nod again.

He lifts my head up gently, slowly unwrapping the cloth from around my head.

My eyes finally become uncovered, and I have the serious urge to open them.

I open them a little, peaking at, what I'll assume is my doctor.

As he takes off the last bandages, leans closer to check on my wound. His breath hits my face, a warm mint rushing over me. Reminds me of my dad, he loves mints.

I open my eyes all the way, cringing at the brightness of the room. I look at him and he looks down at me.

"Hey, what did I say about keeping your eyes closed?" He chuckles, pulling away. As he stands up, I can see him in full view.

He's like me, a hedgehog. His fur is a deep red, one of my favorite reds. His eyes are a like lime green crystals. He wears a long white coat, his undershirt striped with red and white. He has a pen in his breast pocket, which is shaped like a candy cane.

I giggle at his looks, earning a smile from him.

"Yes I know, I'm a walking candy cane." he snorts, walking over to a desk. I watch him open drawers, searching for something. I hear an "ah", assuming he found what he needed to find.

He walks back over to me, holding a roll of cloth bandages.

"Just letting you know, I wrote a doctor's note and gave it to your bat friend. You have to stay here this week, you'll be in school next week," He explains.

I shake my head. I don't want to stay in here forever!

"Promise me I'll be in school next week?" Even though I'll still be stared at and looked at like a slut..

He nods. He places a knee onto my bed, leaning over. He begins to wrap the cloth around my head.

I can't help but look up at him as he does so. He's definitely a handsome hedgehog.

He glances down at me and gives me a warm smile, finishing up with the wrap.

He pulls away and walks to his desk, putting his roll of cloth away.

As he sits down in his chair and turns to the computer, I ask "Sir? What's your name?"

He types into the computer, glancing over his shoulder towards me.

"Call me Dr. Dale."
