Chapter 6

Outside

Mason left the room so I could think things through, I decided I could find my cloths and put them on. I found my skinny jeans and black T-shirt in the closest in the room. I got out of the hospital gown and put on my regular cloths. I put the hospital gown on the bed. I found my messenger bag on a chair next to the bed. I put the strap over my head and the bag went to my right side from my left shoulder. I reached for the door handle and held it.

"What's going to happen if I open this door? Will the nightmare come back?"

As the thoughts swarmed me, I slowly opened the door to see Mason leaning up against the wall waiting patiently for me.

"Ready to get you out of this place?" Mason asked as he got up from the wall.

"More than ready." I said as I started to walk down the hall to the lobby.

When we got there, Mason checked me out instead of letting me do it.

"Shouldn't I check out myself?" I asked in wonder,

"I checked you in so I check you out." Mason said as he put down the pen, he started walking out the doors with his hands in his pockets and I followed him.

"How long have you been here, Mason?"

"Around 5 hours."

"5 hours?"

"Ya.."

"Mason, you should go home, I know my way home."

"I know you do, but I'd rather walk you home. If you got hurt again like that, or even got that scared, I just might die."

I was surprised that he said he would die, all the friends I have ever had would just leave and pretend they don't hear me scream.

"I bet your just saying that." I laughed a little after that, but Mason just gave me a serious look once we where outside.

"I'm serious, Alayna." He gave me his famous smile, and I returned it.

We decided to take the longer way to my house; through a meadow, down a long trail, and through the town.

Once we reached the meadow, I saw the long blades of grass and flowers flowing in the warm breeze. I smiled at the sight that only lasted a moment. Then the grass turned into a pool of blood, the flowers into sharp knives and the wind was humid with blood. I just looked at the wasteland. I didn't blink, the sight almost blinded me with its horror. I turned to look for Mason, but he wasn't there. It was like he was never there at all. I found myself screaming, I didn't like this world one bit and I wanted out of it so bad it made me cry. Tears began to run down my face, yet the tears weren't salt water, they had become blood and they dripped down into the huge pool of horror that was this wasteland. The sight of real blood tears I started to cry more, but I don't know why.

"Let me out! Please!" I cried and pleaded, but nothing would take me out of this madness. Soon I decided it was worthless and I just sat in the blood waiting to die. But I didn't. I never died. I didn't know how long I had been there now. A minute? An hour? It didn't matter to me anymore, I just wanted to die.

-

Soon after, I started to scream because I couldn't take the madness anymore. I cried, pleaded and screamed, but nothing worked. Until I heard a faint voice in the distance. I couldn't make out who it was. The thought of it being the nightmare again sent chills down my spine. I heard the voice again, this time I knew who it was.

Mason.

-

Before I knew it, my eyes opened so fast it almost scared me. I felt two hands wrapped around me. Mason was hugging me in the peaceful meadow. when I knew that I was finally out of the bloody wasteland, I cried on his shoulder and hugged him. Once I stopped crying, Mason still didn't let go. He kept his arms wrapped around me and his head on my shoulder. I pulled back from the hug and wiped my eyes with my hand.

"I'm sorry you have to deal with me, Mason," Tears began to well up in my eyes again,

"I'm really sorry.." A tear ran down my cheek, and I wiped it away.

"You don't have to take care of me."

I said as he looked at me.

"I chose too." Mason said as he held out his hand and helped me up.

After that I didn't say a word the rest of the way home. I just kept my head sort of low and I held on to the strap of my messenger bag over my left shoulder.

Once we got to my house, I walked in and said "thank you" to Mason before I closed the door. My mother was watching T.V as usual and she barely noticed I came in. I decided that I just go upstairs instead of dealing with her.

I threw my bag across the room in sudden anger and sadness. I shut of the lights and didn't even bother to get dressed into a pair of night clothes. I just went into bed and stared at the ceiling, afraid to go to sleep.
