Chapter 14
Two Faces.
Why wouldn't he come? I didn't know. I never did. I grabbed my bag and put it over my head and on my shoulder as I ran out the front door. I had no idea where I was going, I just..went. I ran away from my house, and as it was out if sight I stopped running. I walked in town for nothing but to walk, I didn't know what I was doing. It was still daylight, but I felt like it should be midnight. I walked around until I saw the alleyway that Mason brought me too on the very first days that I knew about the nightmare. I walked down thee alleyway and found myself under its shade that came from nothing. I was walking down the long alley way and stopped in my tracks when I saw puddles of blood right before the dead end. My eyes widened in fear of the blood as I began to get lower to investigate it closer. I held out my finger to touch it, and as my finger tip touched the crimson puddle it burned like I had just touched the sun. I winded at the pain as my finger started to change the skin color to a burned crimson color. I looked at the blood closely and I could see that it was steaming, the steam was a light shade of red as it traveled off polluting the air with it's decaying smell.
Who's blood is this? I thought to myself.
I was panicking that it was Mason's blood because he was the only one who ever dated to ever come back here. My question was answered when I saw a little piece of paper taped to the brick wall to my right. I took the little paper off of the wall and read.
"Alayna, if you are reading this, please don't stop. I came here again to sit and think. Where nobody could bother me. Until my body began to burn, I had to cut myself so it could stop. I'm not sure what's going on and I need your help. But I don't know if you can, you're not acting like yourself lately and I'm worried about you. Please get better."
-
I read the note over and over, yet I didn't know how to understand any of it. I was starting to worry about Mason and I needed to help him. I shoved the paper in my bag and ran as fast as I could to Mason's house. I needed to help him. At this point, I didn't care if Brandon had to object against it, I was going. I ran up to Mason's drive way, but; again, stopped in my tracks to see more steaming blood on the ground leading to Mason's quivering body. He sat on the ground with his head buried in his knees, crying. I walked over and sat next to him.
"M-Mason...are you ok?" I asked knowing it was a stupid question.
Mason looked at me and I saw blood and tears streaming down his face from his eyes.
"A-Alayna..?" He said with a shaky voice. I gave him a hug.
"What happened?" I asked him.
"I-I don't know.." He answered with the same shaky voice as I released my hug.
"Your eyes.." I said wiping the blood and the tears that where traveling down from his eyes. I shook my hand feeling the burn of the blood on my fingertips.
"I-It hurts..it hurts so bad.." He said hugging me tightly.
"Help me..help me Alayna.." He cried silently.
"I-I don't know how!" I answered worriedly, but Mason cried on still not releasing me from his tight hug.
I could feel the blood traveling down from his eyes down his cheeks and onto my shoulder, the blood was starting to burn and I had to let go of the hug.
I looked at Mason and wipes his tears risking another burn so he wouldn't have to suffer.
-
"Alayna!" I heard Brandon's voice over Mason and I.
"What do you want?!" I yelled at him.
"Wh-what? I want you to help me. Please, I'm sorry!" Mason said sounding weak and sad.
"Not you Mason, you can't see him. But I'm not talking to you. Don't worry." I said smiling at him.
"I want you to stop caring for him! Or you'll want his help even more and it'll get him good as dead!" He yelled at me.
I stood up in anger yet still making sure Mason was ok.
"I don't care what you say! He's my friend and I will not stop caring about him if it kills me in the end! You can tell me all you want to stop, but I never will! So you might as well stop now!"
I screamed at him as I helped Mason to his feet.
"Fine, kill yourself. I warned you."
He said angrily as he disappeared.
"Who are you talking too?" Mason asked in wonder.
"Apparently I have visions.."
"Oh..ok?" He said as I helped him into his house and gave him a tissue to wipe his eyes.
Just as he was about to close his front door, I said,
"Sorry for the way I acted..I'll tell you what happened over the phone, ok?"
"Sounds good. Bye, Alayna." He said as he shut his door.
I walked out of his driveway and down the pavement back to my old house. Right as I was walking up my driveway, there stood Brandon with a surprisingly calm but firm expression plastered on his face.
"What the hell do you want?" I said angrily low.
"What does it look like, Alayna?"
"I don't want to know what it looks like, I need to know from the words that come out of your scrawny little mouth that I can't even see because your face is always covered up by that stupid hood!" In anger, I quickly stepped right up to him and grabbed his black hood in my fist and through it right back off of his head. What I saw made me gasp in horror of this one reality.
-
Masons face, burned. Covered in fresh blood streaming down his eyes, the burns where both from fire and the burning blood. The dry blood circling his eyes became fresh burns instead of normal blood that would have just come off. The infinite blood just kept streaming down both mixed in with tears. The only difference was that his hair was black, and Mason's hair was brown.
-
I took a half step back in the horror stuck in my heart.
Mason? I kept thinking.
I was speechless, I had so many words that I couldn't say. So many jumbled ideas on what to say but I just couldn't say them.
"Alayna..I can-" Brandon started to say, but I cut him off.
"Just don't say anything!" I said in sudden anger as I pushed him out of the way. I ran up my porch steps and up to my room in anger and sadness. The fear and the sorrow I couldn't explain in all the infinite words I had already in my head. Was this all in my head? Am I just dreaming? Is this just another part of my nightmare?
Is this reality?
I went into my room and slammed the door shut even though I knew it wouldn't keep Brandon from coming in anyway. And I was right.
As expected, Brandon was in my room without entry and he looked worried. Except I could really see his face, it made me sad to see him like that, to think it was Mason.
"Alayna. I have something I should tell you." Brandon said.
"Ya think?!" I yelled.
"I'm Mason's brother."
