The Mid-Term Exams

"Oh man oh man oh man...." Carter was pacing back and forth in the locker rooms as Ben was attempting to do a last minute cram session with the books he currently had piled up around him.

The mid term exams had started, and both Ben and Carter had been paired together in the shape shifting portion.

What the midterm exams were for you usually depended on your powers and the kind of person you were made out to be. Those who had the ability to change their forms into multiple varieties of unique things or objects took the shape shifting portion of the exam.

Sometimes, if you had multiples of a certain ability, you took more then one exam. For example, earlier that morning, Ben had to take the tech support exam for those whose powers relied on technology. (It was actually easier then he expected. All he needed to do was show that he knew how to use the Omnitrix's most basic functions, which were transforming and scanning new alien life.)

Apparently, when taking the practical portion of the Shape Shifting exam, you were paired with someone for the duration of it. And as it so happened, Ben and Carter were put together.

"Calm down dude." said Ben. "You're starting to make me nervous."

"I can't help it." said Carter. "They say the mid-terms can make or break you. In fact, they say the midterms are even worse then the finals!"

"Really?" said Ben. "At least I don't have to worry as much about the finals then."

"This is serious Ben." said Carter. "This exam is such a big deal, they actually rigged the gym so it can detect if we're trying to cheat. There are rumors that they have counter measures against Grey Matter and Brainstorm in the written portion!! Just for you!!"

"That's oddly specific." said Ben. "Wouldn't they just see me if I transformed right there?"

Carter paused for a minute. "Okay...good point."

Suddenly the gym door opened. Ms. Sonour walked in and nodded at all the students gathered there. "It is time for the written examination. Before you enter and begin your tests, be reminded that any sort of cheating will be treated harshly. That includes you Brook."

Brook rolled his eyes as if to say, "I don't care.....I've got this test in the bag."

"So Brooks taking the test?" said Ben. "Does that mean he can do more then change into a rock monster?"

"It's not that special really." said Carter. "His ability name is Hard Monster. That rock monster he changes into can change it's composition into 4 elements. Rock, diamond, titanium, and sulfur. The sulfur one is his trickiest form because it can create fire and control it slightly."

"Okay." said Ben. "Still doesn't really sound as cool as Diamondhead though."

Ben and Carter got up and followed the rest of the class into the gym area. The usually bare stone stadium now had a multitude of desks filling it, Ben and Carter sat in assigned desks next to each other near the center of the stadium.

"You have 2 hours to complete the test. When you are done, please turn in your paper along with your pencil to me up front then go back to the locker room and wait." said Ms. Sonour. "You may begin."

Ben picked up his pencil and looked down at his paper. Apparently there were two portions to the written exam. One was an assesment of overall knowlege, the second portion was called  "Personal Assessment" which had questions that were tailored specifically to you and what you learned in private individual lessons.

Ben decided to start with the Personal Assessment. He looked at the first question.
