Chapter 20: Comfort

Kayla p.o.v

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN BY MY BIOLOGICAL PARENTS!", I roared.

I think my parents have gone off the deep end.

"As a part of a protection plan. Your parents wanted us to pose as your parents. There has been tension between the witchs and the gifted. They wanted to protect you. If the witchs knew there was another heir to the throne, they'd try to kidnap you to start a war", dad sighed.

They're not my real parents.

I'm not part of this family.

I'm a stranger. An intruder.

No wonder Kate treats Olivia better than me.

Because I'm not her sister.

All this time I've been lied to.

"So when I was a little girl and I called you daddy, you secretly knew I wasn't your child", I said spitefully.

"It doesn't matter if your not our biological child. We still love you", Mom cried.

I gave her the greatest glare known to man and I ignored her.

"Are Miles, Matt, Kate and Olivia actually your children?", I ask even though it was going to add salt to the wound.

"Yes. They are", June said crying.

Yes I'm calling her by her first name. Maybe I should start doing that with my fake-dad.

"Great so I'm just the bastard child", I said.

Tears were falling down my face rapidly.

"I'm going out", I say and stride out without giving them time to reply.

Seeing my keys on the counter, I take them and head out.

I headed anywhere or nowhere.

That's pretty much how I ended up at 'Dawns'. A café twenty minutes away from home. Do I even call it home anymore?

I didn't even care that everyone was staring at my attire. I'm pretty sure I looked like a drowned cat with my blotchy eyes and pale face. Even my hair was a mess. Actually no, I looked more like a drug addict that just rolled out of bed to take their latest fix.

Just to take my mind off things I called one of the only people who could give me a sense of normalcy.

"Finally a call. I thought you were dead", said Maddy.

I laughed which was a strange sound to my ears. I feel like I haven't laughed in ages.

"So what's up?",  she asked.

"Well. How would you react if I told you I'm coming to visit this weekend?", I asked her.

She. screeched really loud. I had to remove the phone from my ear.

"Oh my gosh. We have to get everything planned. I'll tell everyone. We can go to chucky cheese", she said like she was high.

Like sky-high kind of high.

"Yeah. We ca-".

"Kayla".

I looked up to the culprit who cut me off.

Blake.

"Hey. Can I call you back later?", I ask Maddy.

"Sure. Bye", she said, still high.

Then the phone went dead.

"Can I sit down?", Blake asked looking unsure.

That's a first.

"Sure".

"They told you", he states taking in my appearence.

"Sure they did. I found out I'm some kind of supernatural freak".

"Does this shit come with a manual?", I ask sarcastically.

He didn't seem to find my dry joke funny.

"Are you okay?", he asks in concern.

"Brilliant. That's how I feel. I just found out that I'm a supernatural freak and that my family isn't really my family. Fucking fantastic", I said dryly.

Again. He didn't laugh.

"Come on", he said getting up.

"Why?"

"Were going to talk someplace quiet", he says eyeing the customers that were watching us.

On our way out, he ordered us some take out.

For the next two hours we laughed and talked about our problems, our misfortunes as children and just normal things like the weather. It was comforting to know that Blake went through the same thing. Well, apart from the fake family crap. It was suprising to know that Blake would be the one to bring me the gift of comfort. And for that I was grateful.
