Today was the first day that I was taking Ben, mine and Cody's son, to watch his dad play. Before the game we were out on the field, and little Ben was getting everyone's attention, even from the Diamondbacks players. Before the game started, Ben and I take our seats, which were right beside the Dodgers dugout. Cody wanted us to sit where he could keep and eye on us, and I happily agreed. Zach Greinke was pitching for Arizona, and in the bottom of the second, he was facing my husband. It was a 2-1 count when a pitch came flying at him, landing on his ribs. I knew he would be fine, but it was still scary. He looked directly to where we were sitting and gave me a nod to let me know he was okay, but we both were shocked at what happened next. An angry fan thought it would be a good idea to throw an empty beer can at the field, but instead it almost hit Ben. Cody saw this and asked for time before racing over to make sure Ben and I were okay. "Deileen are you guys okay!", he says in a panic, "Yeah it didn't him, but I don't know if I want to stay Cody, what if it happens again?" I tell him and he agrees. We head home and wait for Cody to get back. When he does he heads straight for us and has Ben in his arms, "I'm so sorry little guy, next time I will make sure you and mommy are safe.", he coos to the small baby. "You are a great dad Cody, next time hopefully it will work out better.", I say as embrace him. Life doesn't get much better than this.
