Craig looks up at the man in front of him, confusion on his face. “Hello? Can I help you?”
The man smiles awkwardly, holding out something small and thin. “This is yours, right? Like- you- you're Craig Thompson? Reporter? The one that-”
“The one that almost got killed in some supervillain scheme last Tuesday? Yeah,” Craig says nonchalantly. “The owl saved me. What was his name? Bat Owl? Night Owl? Something owl related.”
The man laughs quietly, a small and calm noise that Craig finds oddly soothing. “Whichever you prefer, I guess. But… is this your pen?”
Craig looks at the pen, a silly one he found somewhere in the depths of a supermarket last month. It had a cute puppy on it, and little feathers at one end of it. In other words, it was a pen he easily recognized as the one he dropped while being nearly strangled to death.
“Hey! That is my pen! Where the fuck did you get this?” Craig smiles warmly at the guy, trying his best to hide his excitement over a stupid pen.
“Huh? Oh, uh, I saw you drop it at the fight scene. I figured it was kinda important because it looked so special, you know?” The guy runs a hand through messy black hair and holds the other out for a handshake. “I'm, uh, I'm Evan. Evan Fong. I- I, um… I'm a hockey coach.”
“Hockey? Here? In Los Santos?” Craig laughs. “That's interesting.”
He decides it makes sense. It explains the slight bruising on his jaw, and the scratches on his legs. The shorts were probably hiding more sports injuries, he thinks to himself.
Evan chuckles and nods. Craig can't figure out why this guy is so nervous about giving back a pen, but he brushes it off for now. Maybe Evan was just an awkward guy.
“So… you get caught up with superheros often?” Evan grins, leaning towards Craig with a smug look on his face. “That's pretty interesting.”
Craig simply shrugs and smiles back, tapping his pencil against the table instinctively. “Not as often as I'd like, you know? Imagine getting Early Bird to agree to an interview. The press would love it.”
Evan nods enthusiastically. “Tell me more about yourself Craig.”
Craig for sure doesn't miss the flirty wink that Evan gives him, nor does he miss the way Evan looks at him so… intrigued. It's quite different than the Evan he saw before, and a part of him isn't sure how to feel about this sudden change.
But he winks back playfully and begins to go off on a tangent about his cameraman Brian, or his fellow reporter Bryce. If Evan was asking to know more about him, who was Craig to deny?
