"Y/N?" A soft voice called from outside of your bedroom door.
"Yeah?"
The door creaked open and a familiar poof of blonde hair revealed itself.
"What are you doing in here baby? It looks like you're summoning demons in here. We don't have the money to move out if this place gets haunted." You're mom skeptically looks around at your dark room, barely illuminated by candles.
You smiled at your mothers sense of humor, she's always been on the hippy, spirtual side. But you weren't one to talk, like mother like daughter. Your room was decorated with all kinds of plants, that you treasured with all your heart and strange abstract paintings lined the walls.
"No I'm saving that for when I go through the 'I hate my life' phase."
"Oh, shut up." Your mom rolls her eyes and strolls in, taking a seat at the end of your bed. "Thank god you weren't like that. You were just the perfect baby. I'm telling you,"
"It was like love at first sight. I saw those eyes and I knew you were meant to be mine." You recite with a dreamy expression.
Your moms face morphs into a sour one. "I liked you better when you were a baby, you didn't talk then."
"But anyways, I'll never get tired of telling that story." The blissful smile appeared on your moms face once again. "Oh my, what am I going to do when you go off to college and grow up." She suddenly wondered.
"There's still a year until that happens ma." Of course the conversation took a turn for the worst, lately your mom had a habit of bringing the future up everytime you so much as breathed around her.
"That doesn't make my feel better, a year can fly by."
"Just adopt another kid. One with prettier eyes." You joke, trying any excuse to prevent your mom from crying.
Her glossy eyes meet yours and she lets out the longest sigh. "Nope. You're my one and only."
"Mom. This isn't Romeo and Juliet. What about dad?"
"I don't know if you noticed but he can get pretty annoying."
As if on cue your dad's voice rang loudly from downstairs. "Woman! Our dinner reservation is in ten minutes! Are you crying up there again? Just leave y/n alone, she's not going anywhere and if you don't hurry up you won't either!"
Your mom huffed loudly and rolled her eyes. You laughed off her childish behavior and helped her up. "Good luck with date night, you look beautiful, I love you." You say quickly, ushering her out of your room.
"Aw, I love you too! I left money on the counter in case you don't feel like cooking!" She yelled loudly as you struggled to close the door.
As much as you love your mom she has a tendency to be... Overbearing and loud. The two of you were polar opposites but despite that you never fought, you respect and love her too much. You had only found out you were adopted a couple of years ago but it hadn't changed your feelings towards her or your dad. She was your mom when you were a baby and she still is.
"Bye y/n! Maybe you should go out! Be a rebel! Call us from a police station for once!" Your dad yelled out as he was leaving with your mom.
You stayed quiet and made your way over to your window. You watched as your mom playfully punched your dad and get put in a head lock for it. "My hair!" You hear your mom screech even with your window sealed shut. They're so childish.
Date night was your only escape from them. It was pure bliss. Your dad wasn't pestering you about your social skills and your mom wasn't doing all the strange things she normally does.
