After the odd kitchen sink affair with Tristan, Sunday went as planned. Everyone stayed till just after twelve and I managed to use the time wisely by adding to James' portrait as he was present.
Monday and Tuesday were similar; the same old usual days they are. The lessons enticed me enough to lull me to sleep and Lucy and the boys' side-splitting nature amused me to stay awake. Band practice was good, the same as it alway is. I don't think I could ever get bored of seeing them practice or perform.
The happy thoughts distract me from the biting winter air that rushes through me as I stand at the bus. God, I wish it was March already and that this bus was here.
Just as I begin to whisper profanities at its tardiness, the bus appears down the road. I board the slightly full vehicle and make my way to the seats at the back downstairs.
I sit down, in the seat going backwards, and switch the song on my playlist; enjoying my new choice a lot more than the previous option. Suddenly, I feel a light tapping on my left knee. Shocked I lift my head to halt the person but am pleasantly surprised to find who the culprit is.
I remove my earbuds. "Hey, you don't usually get the bus," I question.
"No," Brad replies. "But my parents aren't home for a week so there's no car, means I've got to get the bus." He smiles at me.
"Ah, sweet, I'll have a bus buddy now!" I giggle, enthralled by the fact that Brad will have to be on the bus with me for a week.
***
The bus ride maintain's it's routine and gets to the school at its regular time. Brad and I depart ways to get to our forms. I find both Connor and James already in 407 at our table. Form passes quickly, with few ramblings from Mr Wilson, and I head off to Art; meeting Lucy along the way.
During the lesson, I finish James' painting and add it to the slowly growing collection. Mrs Conrad praises me and my work; commending my strong work ethic. I thank her for her compliments but feel too out of depth to truly accept them.
Lucy and I hurriedly rush off to the canteen when the Lunch bell signals, too hungry to care about rules and appearances. We reach the table and startlingly find that the boys are already present, munching away at their food.
"How did all of you beat us?" Lucy squeals. "We bloody power walked and we're still the last ones."
"You lot must be able to teleport, I swear," I quip, squidging between Lucy and Brad.
"Didn't we tell you, we have super powers," James jokes.
I roll my eyes, "I wouldn't be surprised if you did."
" Cheer up Emily, you'll beat us someday." Tristan smiles.
"Thanks," I say, acknowledging his gesture. "Oh, Tris, I just remembered I finished James' picture today which means I can start on yours now."
"Cool, do you want me to come round sometime to model for you?" He asks, pulling different sultry poses in a comical manner.
I laugh, "Yeah sure, that'd be great. Can you come round this Friday, after school?"
He nods, "Yep, sure can."
Brad then nudges me. I turn to him to find a somewhat sceptical look on his face.
"You've spent all this time with the others and not me. When are you going to do mine? " He whines.
"Someone sounds jealous," Tristan counters.
Brad looks at me and the others sternly, "I'm not jealous."
"Sure you're not." I hear Lucy smugly comment behind me.
"I'm not," He repeats
I giggle at him and pull him towards me, petting his head. "Don't worry 'ickle Brad, you're next. No need to feel left out." I draw back and look at his face. "Anyway, you're with me on the bus now and I already feel like I spent most of my time with you."
He mumbles to himself but I just about catch his words, "but that's hardly enough."
"What was that?" I ask.
"Nothing, nothing," He responds flustered, skin tinting a subtle rosy shade.
I smirk, chuckling under my breath, "And you say you're not jealous."
