I stand outside 409, waiting.  My stomach churns with anxiety; the 'butterflies' turning into buzzing hornets. I wipe my sweating hands on my uniform and frantically look around for her.

Why did we even come up with this silly little plan? It probably won't work anyway: where is she.

I keep scanning the hall, trying to spot the bouncy little blonde.  I pull out my phone to check if she sent me anything but there's nothing. I pocket it and turn to go in, giving up on the idea.

"Going in without me then?" I hear Lucy's cheery voice say.

I spin back around, looking at her smiling face.

"I thought you weren't going to turn up," I whisper. I stare down at the ground, embarrassed by my lack of control.

"I wouldn't miss our first day of being girlfriends," She responds.

"Fake girlfriends you mean." I counter back.

"Right, fake girlfriends."

Lucy raises her arm, outstretching her hand towards me. I place my clammy palm on hers and she laces our fingers together. It feels nice, sweet, besides the dampness from me.

"Let's go," She offers as she swings open the door to my Geography class. We make our way over to my seat, watching Brad and Sara as we do so.

As I sit down, Brad glances towards me. He gives me a smile until he sees mine and Lucy's hands. It begins to falter until it drops completely. Sara watches him and goes to speak until she also spots mine and Lucy's intertwined hands. Her face gains the smile that Brad's lost.

Lucy sits herself down on my table and watches as I remove my book from my bag. She makes sure to keep her eyes on me like we prefaced, so we appear more in 'love'.

Sara and Brad resume their conversation while Lucy and I start up our own. The whole time I feel Brad's eyes on me.

A few minutes before the bell goes Lucy stands, suggesting she should get to her class. She takes my hand and lifts it to her lips; kissing my knuckles. I blush, both to play the part and out of surprise.

"Bye Emily, I'll miss you," She says, just loud enough for Sara to overhear. She then leaves the room and waves me goodbye. I grin back at her.

"You're very sweet you two," I hear a voice say. I turn around to see Sara beaming at me: an actual smile.

I duck my flushing face as I reply, "Thank you."

Brad nods but doesn't present any words. The bell chimes and Sara gets up to make her way to the door. Brad grabs her wrist, holding her back. He then kisses her hand, similarly to how Lucy kissed mine.  Sara looks shocked.

"What are you doing?" She asks, uncomfortably.

"Being an affectionate boyfriend." He responds.

She pulls away, offering him a somewhat puzzled look, and leaves the room.

Brad ignores me for the most of Geography, which isn't surprising at all. Just the same how it is every time.

When I get into English though I tell Lucy everything that happened once she left.

"She did what?" Lucy demands, stunned.

"She said we were sweet!" I repeat. My face in a massive grin at the fact Lucy's plan is working.

"Really! What did Brad do?" She keeps inquiring.

I think back to the lesson, "He did the same you did when you left, kissed Sara's hand."

Lucy eagerly nods.

"And then was distant with me for the rest of the lesson," I add, my voice lowering to a whisper as it wobbles.

A voice interrupts us, "What are you two talking about?"

I look up at Connors confused face.

"Oh, well," I begin. "Me and Lucy are being fake girlfriends so that Sara stops being nasty to me."

"See I think that she thinks Emily likes Brad so I said if we pretend to be girlfriends then she'll realise that she isn't interested." Lucy continues.

Connor nods, a puzzled look still on his face. "But you're not actually gay though?" He asks me.

"No, I don't think so," I respond. " Why?"

"Well, it's just another idea but maybe Sara's being mean to you because she thinks Brad likes you. That she's worried he'll leave her for you. Because then that could be why Brads being distant with you, he's upset that you're might not like him." Connor suggests.

I snort at his implications, "I very highly doubt it."

"Anyway," Lucy buts in. "Emily could be bi; like girls and boys."

I nod at her comment, shrugging my shoulders.

I make sure to sit next to Lucy at Lunch. Before Brad arrives Connor tells James and Tristan about mine and Lucy's plan. No one comments on us conjoining our hands when Brad arrives at the table.

Everything continues on as normal, besides the glances from Brad. When Lucy's hand moves to my knee he talks over our already establish discussion.

"So, there's a party happening next weekend, at Jacks place." He says openly. "It's the one I asked you about a few weeks ago, Em. Wondered if you still wanted to go." He directs at me. His focus on my face and response.

I stare back and nod, "Yep. As long as Lucy can come with."

He falters but offers a smile and a nod. "What about you guys?" He asks the group.

"Yeah, sure mate," Tris answers.  Connor and James agree too.

"That settles it then. We're going to the party." Brad concludes.
