Throughout the days you have been trailing behind Freyr; giving your opinion when necessary. He is such a bore. It takes so much effort to even fake laugh and smile. You have hardly been able to talk to Thor due to Freyja hogging him. The worst thing about it is Skadi. It is clear that she despises you. Her nagging comments about you are getting on your nerves. She targets you and singles you out. It is like she does not even want this wedding to happen. The only alone time you get is when the men have lunch, and you can sit on the sand and dip your toes into the clear water.
You sit on the edge of the rowing boat, your back to the hot noon sunrays and feet dangling into the warm summer waters. You kick lazily at the swelling waves until they fall below your toes again while toying with the idea of swimming. It would be something to do, a break from the sweltering heat and the daunting thoughts about the wedding. Your head feels hot, the heat sinking into your (H/C) hair as efficiently as tarmac. You slide to your side and dangle your arm down to catch the briny water with your fingertips. The side of the boat is uncomfortably warm, so you sit back up. This far out the waves have no white crest, no foam spray, instead they roll in lazy arcs like the back of a giant cobra. You get abruptly to your feet and pull off your clothes; leaving just your undergarments on, and you dive right in. The sultry air is immediately replaced with the cool water of the ocean. Soon your lungs clamour for air and you kick for the top. The water makes you feel more alive; reminding of all the good times.
"(Y/N)!" A shrill high pitch voice echoes over the calm water. "Yoo-hoo!"
You groan turning in the water to face the beach. Freyja is waving at you like a madwoman. Internally you cringe. What could she possibly want? With a small smile, you haul yourself back into the boat and row to shore.
"You are a hard person to track down!" Freyja smiles as she runs over to you. "It is almost like you do not want to be found."
"I just needed some alone time." You mutter, wringing the water out of your hair.
Freyja sighs. "I bet you are so excited. I cannot wait to get married to the perfect prince." She trails off and stares into the distance like in one of those cliché Midgardian books. "Anyway, I came to tell you that we are having dinner within the hour."
You glance up at the position of the sun.
"This early?" You question pulling on the dress you were wearing.
"Father insisted that we leave tomorrow so we can do the last-minute touches to our wedding outfits." The blonde flicks her hair with a smirk. "Hurry up, you may just have enough time to sort yourself out." She puffs, turning on her heels and walking away.
Wow, her mood swings are off the chart. She's probably got Thor withdrawals. With one last glance at the ocean, you start walking back to the palace. If Skadi points out one more flaw in you, you are going to blow. However, your secret plan is beginning to play out.
