I was on top of a hill in my Nightfury form awaiting the Viking ship which would be carrying the sacrifice. Ever since I made my decision I made it a point to only think of them as "The Sacrifice" or I would lose my nerve. We dragons are not usually ones for killing humans unless out of self defense but I was enraged. Not to mention over the years we have warred with the humans as they have killed our numbers. How dare these humans come into our sacred lands and kill off a matriarchal dragon no less.
Not that I had a lot sympathy personally for the Red Death Queen herself, she had enslaved many dragons and had grown too powerful and too greedy. In time she would have had to have been dealt with but I was not powerful enough and there were not enough willing to stand up to her. In reality, I owed them gratitude for dealing her the death blow. A peace has settled over us all in fact many wish for me to take my place as rightful ruler now that the Red Death is gone. However, I cannot condone humans killing dragons what type of ruler would I be?
No, I was simply teaching them a lesson and what better way then by making them choose a virgin sacrifice from one of their own. Why a virgin sacrifice? because it would mean less reproductive opportunities for their species and a younger sacrifice would cause them a hardship as the young are needed to care for the old and contribute to the society much like us dragons do as well. We understand some workings of human society even though we try our best to avoid interacting with them. It was only due to the Red Death causing dragons out of desperation to pillage human nests for food to satisfy her greed.
I could see it now in the distance the dragons I had sent out to bring the Vikings to our land was returning as quickly as possible and in return they would dispatch them just as quickly. This would be the last time the Vikings would ever come to our lands again we will cast spells upon their ships so they would be unable to find us ever again. A sacred spell of protection would also be placed upon our lands to prevent future human intrusion.
You see all dragons have magic in them. Unbeknownst to the humans who are either too foolish or too blind too see. We all have the ability to take on human forms as well as a hybrid form picture a human with wings, tails, claws, scales, and horns of a dragon. When on human shores we tend to avoid assuming these forms to avoid the humans discovering our power. Many dragons shun their human forms and favor their dragon form completely.
We also all have powers pertaining to what species and class of dragon we are I myself being a Nightfury my powers are speed, stealth, lightning, and plasma blasts to name a few. Monstrous Nightmares control fire in all forms. Deadly Nadders can channel their spine shots in all forms. Gronckle's can control boulders and volcanoes. And so on and so forth.
It was then I saw it the dignity of dragon's bringing in the ship. I rise up on all fours and stand waiting. With my powerful dragon eyesight I can see the ship land and the procession I chose come out to meet the sacrifice. The sacrifice departs from the ship though it is hard to see what they look like from up here. I watch the procession stand together as the ship departs. Then the procession makes its way to the sacrificial alter I had had erected. I pick up the mental link that the sacrifice is in place and the procession in their human forms have walked away. We decided to make it easier on the humans by having them in human form they would be less likely to result to violence. The sacrifice is alone and in chains and I am ready.
I then let out a great roar and start charging through the forest running quickly. I then come to the clearing where the alter lies and their is the sacrifice. I come out stalking my prey. The first thought that enters my mind when I see the sacrifice is that they must have sent a hatchling for she is so small. Then I wondered if this was meant as an insult to send such a small offering. For all the humans I have ever seen have been far larger then this creature. I came closer to smell her as I realize it is indeed a female human and she is of age to have hatchlings and her scent is.. wonderful. Still I cock my head to the side in curiosity she is so...cute.
