"vi, come on. you have to get up."

"i don't want to."

lily sighed as she stared at the sad mess that was her best friend. violet was under her blankets, pillow covering her head, and tissues scattered around her. the older woman rolled her eyes before getting under the blankets next to violet, propping her head up on her pillow as she glared at the brunette.

"violet."

"he thinks i cheated on him, lily," violet said sadly, moving the pillow off of her head to reveal that tears were streaming down her face. "and he won't talk to me."

"so go talk to him," lily suggested, "you know he's at cal's."

"i don't want to push him, though," violet shook her head, wiping her face dry with a tissue. "and i'm also kind of upset that he apparently doesn't trust me."

"c'mon vi, you know you would think the same. remember when you got upset about arzaylea before you two started dating?" lily reminded her gently, trying not to make her friend even more upset. she failed.

"yes," violet's eyes turned cold. "before we started dating. before we knew we liked each other. yet now we've been dating for a year and he apparently doesn't know me well enough that i would never cheat on anybody, especially him."

liky nodded in agreement. "okay, you have a point. but are you going to let some fake article ruin this? you love him."

"i know i do," violet's eyes teared up again. "but i don't think he loves me anymore."

"bullshit," lily swore, shaking her head. "that man is head over heels for you. right now he's probably crying as much as you are, also maybe drunk. and i know the boys are trying to talk him into listening to you. so why don't you go over there and fix this."

"i'm scared, lils," whispered the woman quietly. "i'm terrified."

"i know you are," the blonde said, "but i also know you're one of the most badass people i've ever met, so you're going to get over there and show this man how much he means to you."

violet nodded, suddenly more confident than she had been minutes ago. "okay."

a knock on the door caused calum to sigh in relief, standing up from where he sat next to his best friend on the couch. he walked to the door, opening it and smiling at violet. she looked terrible, and he could tell that she had been crying as much as luke had. "come on in, he's in the living room."

as she stepped inside hesitantly, he grabbed his car keys and walked out. "i don't wanna be here for this. text me when you're done."

luke looked up at the sound of the door closing and immediately looked back down at the drink in his hands. violet entered the room slowly, coming to stand right in front of her boyfriend and clearing her throat.

"i didn't cheat on you," she said shakily, "and you need to listen to me because i love you and i'm not letting you go."

the man's eyes flickered to her own, but she got no other reaction so she continued. "someone hacked into miles's icloud account. he still had some old pictures of us that he forgot to delete. that picture was taken two years ago, right before we broke up."

luke felt a weight lifted off his shoulders at hearing this, and finally managed to look directly at violet. "i'm sorry," he apologized, voice cracking.

violet wanted to be a little upset at him for not trusting her and not letting her explain. but he looked so sad and all she could do was sit next to him on the couch and wrap her arms around him. he melted into her embrace, leaning his head on her shoulder and squeezing her tightly to his chest.

"i'm sorry," he kept repeating into her shirt.

violet frowned, pulling away from him only to look at his face. "luke, you shouldn't be. i probably would have done the same. i'm sorry."

he just shook his head, leaning in to kiss her softly before holding her once again. she was pulled onto his lap, burying her head into his chest and breathing in deeply. luke pressed several kisses to her head, whispering 'i love you's' into her ear as well. violet closed her eyes, and before she could help it, blurted out: "i want to marry you."

luke's hands froze from where they were rubbing circles on her back. she heard his breath hitch, and squeezed her eyes shut whenever he leaned back to look at her. he cupped her cheeks with his hands before kissing her nose lightly. "vi, baby, look at me."

she opened her eyes hesitantly, wishing she could just take back what she said. not that it wasn't true though, because she really wanted to marry luke.

her boyfriend smiled at her. "i have a ring."

"w-what?" violet stuttered, her hands dropping from his chest. "you–what?"

luke shrugged as if it was no big deal. it was a huge deal. "i bought it a month ago. i didn't know when i was going to propose, but i just know i wanna spend the rest of my life with you. guess you beat me to it."

violet covered her mouth with her hands as her eyes teared up. "so you want to get married?"

"i do," luke nodded. "do you?"

she nodded her head frantically in response. he chuckled, "if we go home i can give you the ring."

violet practically jumped off of his lap, grabbing his hands and pulling him to his feet. before she said anymore, she leaned in close and kissed him, hard. they remained there for a few moments, before violet pulled back and grinned widely. "let's go. please."

luke chuckled, letting her pull him towards the door and out of the house. she drove home, sending him a glance every few seconds with a huge grin on her face. he pulled out his phone, sending calum a text to thank him and tell him everything was alright.

and as he watched violet stare at her left hand for the next week straight, he knew everything would be perfect.
