It's been about a week since Carter helped me with my spaghetti trip. I was very thankful for his help and I wouldn't know what to do if he wasn't around.

I've gotten more bruises than I've ever had before and I was hating it. My right arm had a few while my left arm had a lot. My mother drinks way too much and my father doesn't know what is happening. He knows she's sober in the morning, but he doesn't know she beats the hell out of me. Thank god it's the beginning of October and it's getting colder outside. I can cover up my bruises now without trying.

Classes has started and ended for the longest time ever and I had a big urge to head to English. I wanted to find out what book we would be reading. Yes, the first book was fantastic but I'm hoping that the new book will be even better. English was my favorite subject. Besides, we got to read books that students and teachers loved.

I was in math now, one period away from english. Math was very difficult for me but I somehow pass it every term. I do stay after school quite often because I don't want to go back home. But now that I work nighttime shifts, it's been hard to stay after school.

Before Carter comes to the café, I study math and only that subject. Every other subject I have really high grades in but math. I've been started to finish my homework with Carter but I don't double check which is hurting my grade. I'm trying to break out of that habit and fix it as soon as possible.

"Wren!" Mrs. Reed snapped.

"Yes ma'am," I say in a concerning voice.

"Are you day-dreaming?" she questioned while smacking her ruler on the whiteboard.

"No ma'am. I was thinking about how well your hair was looking today. They should give staff raises for how well they dress," I lied. This wasn't entirely true. Her hair was a big mess and I was just hoping she would take the compliment and move on with the lesson.

"Really?" Mrs. Reed questioned while playing with her hair.

"Stunning!" I lied. My peers knew I was lying but they didn't tell Mrs. Reed. Anyone who daydreams, doesn't pay attention or does something stupid, you get detention by Mrs. Reed.

"Why thank you!" Mrs. Reed said, continuing with her lesson.

I was saved from detention.

"Most students have picked to read The Outsiders for the rest of the year! So, I'll be passing out the books now!" Mrs. Kathy said, collecting the box of books from the closet.

As she was passing out the books, I heard a knock on the door. Students started to shout out that someone was at the door and she got a little ticked off. She probably heard the door knock as well.

She placed down the box of books to the left of me. In my English class, a few seats were empty because we didn't have a full class of students. I was glad because the less people you have to present to, the better.

"Hello Carter! What can I do for you?" Mrs. Kathy greeted from the door. The moment I heard his name, my head popped up and I was curious why he was here.
