I awoke when Moonpaw started shaking me. “Amberlake and Birdsong are waiting outside the apprentice’s den! Come on!” she mewed to me. I got up, stretched, and walked outside. “About time sleepy heads! We are going to work on hunting moves in the clearing today.” What? I want to fight, not hunt!!! I thought.

“What? Can’t we do battle moves? I want to learn how to kick some ThunderClan tail!” I whined. “Hunting for the Clan is more important than learning how to fight when the fights shouldn’t be fought!” Amberlake replied. “We don’t even get to leave camp! What are we, kits?” I complained. I’m not weak like everyone else! I have Tigerstar’s blood in me!!! I thought. Birdsong flicked her ears in frustration. “Would you rather check the elders for ticks or learn to hunt?” Amberlake snapped. I closed my mouth. I would rather leave this weak Clan! I thought. “Today we will teach you how to catch fish,” Birdsong mewed. I rolled my eyes. Fish are too easy to catch. “I saw that,” Moonpaw said, cuffing my ear. “Shhh! Now to catch a fish, you need to sit on the bank so your shadow doesn’t fall on the water. This helps you to not be seen by the fish,” Birdsong meowed. We all sat at the bank of the stream that runs through camp. “Next, when you see the fish, swipe it out of the stream and bite it until it goes limp.”

“Okay, let’s practice. Moonpaw, you go first.” Moonpaw swiped at a fish, but it didn’t go on the ground. I can do much better, and I don’t like fish. “Fox dung!” she cried. “It’s okay, Moonpaw. We aren’t all good at being warriors! Maybe you should become a medicine cat. Herbs! Scary!” I mewed sarcastically. “That’s enough, Brokenpaw! Do you want to miss your first hunting lesson?” Amberlake meowed angrily. “Now you try to catch a fish,” mewed Birdsong, trying to change the topic. I stared at the water for a few seconds, then I swiped at some fish. Two fish came up on the ground next to me. “Wow!” Amberlake mewed, almost forgetting my earlier complaints. “Nice catch, Brokenpaw,” Birdsong praised. While I was being showered with compliments, I saw Moonpaw stalk out of camp. Wow, she gets mad just because I can catch fish and she can’t!  I walked back to camp with Birdsong and Amberlake. “Does anyone know where Moonpaw went?” Birdsong asked. “No idea. I think she’s mad,” Amberlake replied. We got to camp and waited for Moonpaw. I went to the fresh kill pile and took a vole and ate it. Then Moonpaw got back with a bunch of fish. Wow, she’s that jealous? That’s pathetic.
