I awaken from the Dark Forest to find Moonleaf still asleep, receiving her nine lives from StarClan. I see her body writhe in pain every time she received a new life. I sat there, dwelling over the lives I received from the Dark Forest, and the faded cats who gave them to me. They are close to being forgotten, and in giving me a life, they are making sure I won't forget them. Making sure they won't fade away. That's the only for sure way to stay. I think about what it would be like if I became faded.
That would never happen! I tell myself. No one would forget me, Brokenstar. Of course they wouldn't. After all, I am supposed to plunge the forest into and rule over it. I begin to think about the prophecy, and the omen Runningnose had. Shadows will rule and Moon will break until one perishes finally...
Moonleaf wakes up and turns her head towards me.
"Good morning, sister," I purr.
"You're not her sister!" two black shapes by the door yell. Moonleaf streaks out through the opening in Highstones, leaving me alone.
