WTF Moment: The logic behind Team Aqua/Team Magma's plans on Mt. Chimney

~Team Aqua at Mt. Chimney~

(May's POV)

Ugh...how many of these guys are there?! I've been up here for over an hour now, and I haven't even come close to getting to Archie and that stupid machine with the meteorite hooked up to it. I've been battling Aqua Grunt after Aqua Grunt, and I know my Pokemon were getting tired.

"MAY!"

I turned to look at the owner of the voice, Maxie, aka the Team Magma leader.

"Maxie? What are you doing here...?" I asked him as he approached me.

"Stopping Team Aqua's plans." He firmly responded, ushering me further up the volcano. "We'll take things from here, you go ahead and stop Archie!"

"I'm on it!" I replied, taking off in the direction Archie and the machine were in.

What? I'm not a Magma member, if that's what you're wondering. It's not like I'm working for them, they just have a common interest with me at the moment, stopping Team Aqua.

Now that I think about it...what are they even doing here...?

I glanced back at where Maxie was, his Mightyena was fighting three Aqua Grunts Poochyena's all at once. Maxie shot me a sideways glance, noticing me standing here.

"May, we don't have much time! Go! Before its too late!" He called out to me, trying to express the seriousness of the situation we were in.

I shook my head, snapping out of my trance. I know what I have to do. I grabbed a Pokeball off of my belt, my most trusted Pokemon. She's my toughest, and I know she can handle anything I throw at her.

I walked up the steps of the Volcano, finding myself at the peak of Mt. Chimney. I swallowed the lump in my throat, and gripped onto Blaziken's Pokeball even tighter.

There he was, Archie.

He was standing in front of a strange looking machine that had the meteorite hooked up to it. It's that same meteorite they ruthlessly stole from Professor Cozmo back in Meteor Falls.

"ARCHIE!" I shouted, startling the older man.

He spun around on his heel to look at me. As soon as he recognized me, he just flashed me a smug look.

"Ah, May! How good to see you again." He said sarcastically, smirking evily.

I just glared at him, my rage was boiling. "Oh shut it, Archie. Don't give me any of that bullshit."

Archie just blinked, then laughed. "Wow, someone's feisty today. Well, can't say I'm surprised." He smirked at me, noticing I was holding a Pokeball.

"Why are you doing this? And what exactly are you doing in the first place?" I questioned him.

"Well...my dear May, let me enlighten you." Archie started off. "This machine is going to launch a pulse into the air, causing it to rain heavily. All of the never ending rain will fill up the Volcano, creating a lake for more water Pokemon to live in. So, in a way, we're expanding the sea."

I just shrugged. "Makes sense."

"So, shall we start this?" Archie asked the rhetorical question, reaching for a Pokeball clipped to his belt.

"Lets."

~Team Magma at Mt. Chimney~

(May's POV)

Archie managed to help me out by stalling the Team Magma Grunts, keeping them preoccupied as I pushed forward. Undetected, I managed to get all the way up here.

As I approached the top of the Volcano, I noticed Maxie was standing in front of a strange machine that had the meteorite hooked up to it. I don't know what the hell he's planning, but it's surely nothing good.

"MAXIE!"

Y'know, I just realized how much of a girls name he has. Seriously, evil villain, leader of the most infamous criminal syndicate in all of Hoenn, has a girls name.

Yeah...doesn't make him sound all that terrifying now that I think about it...

Maxie spun around on his heel to face me, clearly amused that I got all the way up here. "Ah, May! How nice to see you! I see Team Aqua is here, as well..." Maxie observed, looking down at the lower levels of the Volcano, watching the battles between Aqua and Magma commence.

"I don't know what it is you're doing, but I will stop you!" I shouted at him, grabbing Blaziken's Pokeball off of my belt.

Maxie just laughed, clearly amused by my determination. "Would you care for me to enlighten you on my plans?" He offered, he obviously didn't think there was anything I could do to stop him.

I just crossed my arms, defiantly. "Go for it, I'm listening."

Maxie just smirked, stepping closer to you. "Well, as you already know...Team Magma's ultimate goal is to expand the land, so more land Pokemon have a place to live."

I just yawned with a bored expression. "Uh, yeah. We've been over this like...a bunch of times already." I sassed him, struggling to hold back laughter at his angered face.

"Why you little---ah. Forgive me. Where are my manners? Let me continue my explanation." Maxie said, regaining his composure. "We plan on sending a pulse out of this machine, forcing the Volcano to erupt, inevitably creating more land." Maxie smirked triumphantly, getting all up in my face, as if he was challenging me. "Now, what do you have to say to that!"

"Are you serious...?" I asked in disbelief, shooting him an "are you fucking kidding me...?" look.

Maxie blinked a few times, then backed up away from me. "What? Are you disappointed with my ingenious and full proof plan?"

I just scoffed at the words "ingenious" and "full proof."

"Maxie...your plan is anything but full proof." I pointed out matter-of-factly, shooting him a weird look.

"How so?!" He snapped in a childish manner.

"Well, for starters, you said you wanted to expand the land...right?" I asked, inquisitively.

"Yes..."

"Well, if you made the Volcano erupt, wouldn't it just erupt lava and destroy two towns? Killing several people and Pokemon, covering up a bunch of land, and also making it unusable in the process?"

"...yes..."

"So...in a way, you're pretty much destroying the land, and killing land Pokemon, all just to expand the land, when really, you're just piling useless land up on top of it."

"..."

"That's what I thought."

"I was really sure this was going to work...I didn't exactly think that through..."

I patted Maxie on the back, flashing him a reassuring smile. "It's ok, buddy."

"Everything I've ever known is a lie..."

"Don't beat yourself up about it, everyone makes mistakes."

"Archie is so going to tease me about this later..."

"I'm counting on it..."

I always made a "o_O" face every time at the Mt. Chimney scene when Team Magma was there in the game. I mean, Archie's plan actually makes sense. Maxie's, not so much...
