Even though the sun was slowly setting over the Los Angeles hills, there was still a warm breeze in the air. A brilliant orange hue filled the evening sky in the horizon. At the Lynch residence the pool had finally settled down after a long afternoon of rough swim play amongst a few rambunctious boys, yet the water still bounced an array of dancing, reflective beams of light across its surface.

In the corner of the backyard near the large grill, the family had already been called to dinner and the meal was served on the back patio table. The conversation dulled as everyone became involved in their food momentarily. The table was full of clinking silverware and the sounds of eating. After only a few moments of quiet, there was a burst of sound coming from the corner of the table. All eyes turned to the source of the blasting music.

Suddenly Ross popped up from his seat and pulled his phone from his pocket. He looked at the screen and then began to move away from the table.

"Must be his girlfriend..." Riker mumbled around his food, with an exaggerated roll of the eyes.

As Ross quickly moved toward the sliding door into the house, Stormie called out, "Don't be long!"

With that, the door shut slammed shut behind Ross. Stormie went back to her plate of food with a noticeable sigh.

Noticing Jessica's look of concern, Ellington leaned into her, "He's been obsessing over this chick, Cassidy, for a few months now. They're freaking out over the tour. She's got classes so she can't come. It's like World War III around here these days." he took a large bit of chicken.

Jessica nodded and stabbed her fork into her salad. "Wait, what happened to.... what the hell was her name... Victoria?"

Ellington nodded and swallowed. "Vanessa. That was so, like, six months ago."

Riker piped in, "Don't feel bad if you can't keep track. None of us can. It's like a new girl every couple of months."

"Hey now, don't be rude." Stormie interjected.

"Yeah, but it's true..." Riker lowered his voice and took another large bite.

A heavy silence filled the table. Mark cleared his throat and began to pick at his food with his fork.

"Look kids, lets just forget about all of that and enjoy this time together. Your mother put a lot of work into this meal. Alright?"

There were a few nods around the table. They all proceeded to eat, quickly changing the subject to more pleasant topics of conversation.

After all the dishes from dinner had been cleared and the sun had completely set behind the trees in the backyard, Jessica made her way back out by the pool once more to dip her feet in the water. She tossed off her sandals, sat on the edge of the pool and let her legs dangle. As she sat quietly, her feet mindlessly played with the water. She became mesmerized by the reflection of the underwater lights dancing underneath the ripples that she was making in the water. Her thoughts reviewed the events of the chaotic and eventful day that she had just had. She took a sip from her bottle of beer.

Not but a few moments had passed when she heard the sliding door open and footsteps coming out. She looked back and saw Riker walking towards her holding a beer of his own. The bottom of his bare feet made a distinct sound against the concrete as he waked. He sat next to her and slipped his feet in the water as well. He exhaled heavily and took a swig of his beer.

"Its been a helluva day." He set his beer down next to him and put his hands behind him, resting back a bit.

"You're tellin' me." she replied and look another sip, this one noticeably longer. He glanced over at her, and gave a small smirk.
