The next morning she awakened by the sound of the shower blasting coming from the bathroom. She groaned quietly as she rolled over and rubbed her throbbing head. Her eyes slowly blinked open to find herself in a dark room, wrapped up in a mess of bedsheets. She sat up a bit and noticed the bathroom door shut and light streaming out from underneath it.

As usual, Rydel had beat her to the punch for bathroom time. It was becoming clear that she was an expert at finding sneaky ways to get time to herself. Jessica flopped back and sighed. She glanced over that the small, digital alarm clock on the nightstand. 4:19 am. Reading those glowing red numbers felt like hitting a brink wall. Everything in her body was telling her to go back to sleep, causing her to wonder how she was going to make it through the rest of this very long day.

She threw the comforter off of her body and sat upright. She pushed her hair away from her face and swung her legs off the edge of the bed. She gave a heavy yawn before standing on her feet. She knew that she had a bit of packing to do before they were scheduled to leave for the interview that morning, but instead she decided to prioritize her activities for the morning and start by getting coffee. She found the small coffee pot near the sink just outside the bathroom door and set it to brew one cup.

While it chortled and worked away she threw her hair up in a ponytail and grabbed a set of clothes from her bag. She poured herself a cup in one of the small mugs set next to the machine for the use of the rooms occupants. Usually she was prone to add a dash of cream to her coffee, but on a day like today she took it black. She took a few sips and set it down to let it cool off a bit.

Just as she grabbed her clothes to change the heard the door from the connecting room click open. From the other side she saw Ellington barely peaking in. “You guys decent?” he asked through the cracked door.

“Yep. Sorry to disappoint.”

The door swung open all of the way and he walked over to her. “Don’t worry. We have plenty of time left together for an accident of some sort.” He motioned to the mug next to her on the counter. “Its a little early for you to be hittin’ the Joe already. You okay?”

“I feel like I was hit by a bus.”

He plopped on the bed and bounced gently. “That bad, eh?”

“Yeah well, you can send my regards to your blonde roommate with the swoopy hair for doing this to me.”

“So basically you are telling me that I should just leave you alone.”

“Yep. That is at least until I finish off that mug bone dry.”

“Well alright, I’ll leave you be to take care of your girl business, but I just wanted to check on you to make sure that you hadn’t transformed into the hulk after I left last night and decided to leave us all for good.”

Jessica picked up the mug and brought it to her lips, “Still here, aren’t I?” She rose one brow cockily took a sip.

“For now, yeah.” Ellington rose to his feet and exhaled. “Be ready to head out in twenty?”
