superficial love

chapter nine - let's try not to fall in love

RED VELVET had just gotten on stage as the second performers, and BLACKPINK watched them walk on stage from the waiting room on the TV after getting their mics strapped on.

Chaeyoung had her eyes locked on Yeri the whole performance, wondering exactly just what was up with her.

Why hadn't she screamed at Chaeyoung? Why didn't she look like she wanted to kill Chaeyoung right on the spot?

It seemed the others could sense Chaeyoung's confusion and nervousness, for they exchanged looks before Jisoo addressed it.

"You were nervous about Yeri, huh?" She asks, nudging Chaeyoung and causing her to jump a little.

"If i'm being honest, then yes." Chaeyoung tries to laugh it off slightly.

Lisa shrugged. "Well, Yeri's a sweet girl..."

"But even so," Jennie says, "every girl can get a little jealous or possessive of their significant other. She must really not care, or may have just been acting like everything was okay." Jennie makes a point, causing Chaeyoung to gnaw at her lips.

She was torn, because one minute it felt like her and Jaehyun were the only two in the world, and the next- Chaeyoung stops her heart from wavering because she remembers that he was never hers, and most likely, will never be.

"But like Lisa was saying, Yeri's really nice. Maybe she just doesn't care? I don't know." Jennie suddenly blurts as she notices Chaeyoung's change in mood.

Jisoo gave Chaeyoung a reassuring squeeze. "Don't think too much about it. None of this is your fault. Love isn't forced, nor can it be helped." She says in a hushed tone.

Jennie and Lisa immediately clap.

"Of course, wise words from our eldest." Lisa says as her and Jennie both snicker as Jisoo flips her hair.

Chaeyoung only weakly smiles, not being able to laugh freely as she just had so much on her mind. As she was beginning to grow weary, she definitely needed some water to calm herself down.

"Ah, shoot! I forgot my bracelet in the dressing room." Jennie sighs.

"I can grab it. I need some water, anyway." Chaeyoung volunteers, and Jennie nods in appreciation, telling her she's left it on the table by the door.

The girls had went back to watching the live performance on the TV screen that hung above the couches.

Chaeyoung had begun to walk back around the corner, and as she did- she collided with someone- or something.

"Ow." Chaeyoung winced in pain, immediately rubbing at her forehead as it had bumped harshly against the person's chin.

"A-are you okay?" Chaeyoung heard the person ask. The voice was vaguely familiar and ran through Chaeyoung's ears and through her body like an electric shock. RED VELVET had just begun to perform 'You Better Know', but Chaeyoung could only hear his voice for some reason.
