Final Chapter of "main story": Forgiveness

As you can see this is the last chapter of the main story. I hope you guys enjoy it.

After the police chief left, Joseph stayed by himself in his room. It was dark outside. His family had been gone for a while.

He picked up his phone seeing that he had 20 missed messages. He instantly called Mary back.

" Hello, Joseph," Mary's voice seemed annoyed.

" High darling. I'm sorry I didn't answer the phone. I was um..... watching detective shows."

Mary laughed on the other line, " well we're on our way home. Be there soon."

Joseph smiled though there was no one to see him, " ok honey. Love you."

" Love you too."

Mary hung up the phone. Joseph looked around at his scattered clothes. He put them back on, and went down stairs.

His phone rang again... It was the police department. Joseph answered the phone, " hello?"

" Hello, Joseph. It seems the charge against man slaughter was lifted. You're off the hook. Thanks for this evening," Jeff explained.

Joseph laughed, " thank you, for saving my life. Not for the sex. It was boring."

" Well I loved the way you moved-"

" Look, Jeff that was a one time thing. I am not going to do it again," Joseph explained.

The other end was quiet for a little then Jeff replied, " well alright then. I guess see you later?"

" Sure," then Joseph instantly hung up.

The door bell rang, " goodness. Can't I get some time to myself."

Joseph opened the door only to see Robert. It was a surprise.

Robert smiled, " hey Joseph."

Joseph looked around, " hi? Are you okay?"

Robert nodded, " yeah I'm good. I just wanted to see you."

Joseph seemed confused, " well... Do you want to come inside?"

Robert nodded and walked inside, " thanks. Don't worry I'm not being hunted by the feds. I just wanted to know if Jeff came by."

Joseph nodded, " yep and he said the charge of murder was dropped."

Robert smiled and sat on the sofa, holding a lit cigarette, " Robert no smoking in my house."

Robert put out the cigarette, " oh yeah, sorry I forgot."

Joseph sat next to Robert, " so.... I guess we're off the hook then."

Robert nodded, " yep."

Joseph stood up, " Robert I need to apologise to you for everything."

Robert stared at Joseph, " why? I mean... Yeah you were an asshole. But that doesn't mean I wasn't an asshole too."

Joseph smiled, " well, I guess I just feel bad for everything I've done. Hurting you and Mary. Lying to my kids." Joseph walked over to the fireplace, " I want you to forgive me, for what I'm about to do."

Robert looked worried, " what do you mean?"

Joseph grabbed a knife from the kitchen, " in the Bible it says... If you kill yourself you won't go to heaven. But I don't think I deserve to go to heaven. After everything I've done."

Robert ran over to Joseph and grabbed his arm, " look, you're not that bad. Think about your kids and Mary. She really does love you."

Joseph had tears falling down his face, " I don't think I can do this anymore."

Robert slapped Joseph, " get a hold of yourself. Stop being an idiot. Don't kill yourself. Don't do it... Your kids need... Mary needs you........ I need you."

Joseph chuckled, " you like me that much?"

Robert blushed, " ye-yeah. Your stupid! But cute..."

Joseph laughed and put down the knife, " so do you finally forgive me?"

Robert looked confused, " huh?"

" Did you really think I was gonna kill myself. I need to take care of my kids you know."

Robert glared at Joseph, " you bastard! You got me all emotional!"

Joseph was laughing so hard, " so do you forgive me?"

Robert smiled, " yeah. Of course I do... Idiot."

The door opened with Mary and the kids, " hey honey we're home."

Joseph ran to hug his wife, " oh I missed you."

Mary blushed, " I missed you too... Are you okay? Are you crying?!"

Joseph laughed, " sorry..."

Mary told the kids to go upstairs, once they left Mary stared at Joseph worriedly, " what's wrong. Did the feds find out?"

Joseph shook his head.

Robert slipped out the open door way, " see ya later."

Joseph hugged Mary again, " I'm just so happy to be alive, I guess."

Mary pushed Joseph off, " alright you need some sleep. Come on I got some new lengere." She winked at him and ran upstairs.

" Hey wait for me!" Joseph followed her into the bedroom.

The rest of there lives went out relatively smoothly. Excluding college and all that. Mary and Joseph were actually really happy. There kids got good grades and went to good colleges. Robert had the same life as he always did. Went out to the bar with Mary. Drank vodka, but Mary didn't hit on guys anymore.

Joseph and Mary died together. Mary was 83 and Joseph was 86. They died of old age in there bed and had a beautiful funeral.
