Evan's POV

"So, Evan! How was it?" My mom smiled widely at me. "It was fun, (Y/N) is entertaining. I'm not as nervous with her anymore." I rambled. "Oh I'm so proud of you, Ev! Don't let her go, she seems like a good friend." Mom advised. I nodded and headed upstairs. "Oh, hun?" Mom called from somewhere downstairs. "Yeah?" I yelled back, loud enough for her to hear. "I need to talk to you about something, come back to the kitchen!" She sounded excited. I didn't know whether or not to be nervous about the conversation that I'd have with her.

I ran back downstairs and went to the kitchen, where I found at least 5 mini booklets with titles ranging from "Forest Wildlife", to "The Life of Alexander Hamilton". "What's all this?" I asked, flipping through all the booklets. "A writing competition to win you a scholarship to any college of your choice. Ev, I thought this would be great for you! Since you love writing and you're so good at it!" Heidi rambled. "Oh.. Good." I said, slightly uninterested.

"I'll get back early from work tomorrow, we can have dinner and go over these together. How about that?" She asked, hopeful that I'll agree. "Okay. I made plans with (Y/N) though. Should I ask if we could do them earlier?" I explained, trying to get out of writing these essays. "That would be ideal. If it isn't possible, that's fine, we could just do it another day." Mom said. She sounded disappointed. I now felt guilty and I apologized. "Ev, it's fine! You have a new friend, I want you to hang out with her." I swallowed nervously and nodded as a response.

I went back upstairs and tossed myself on my bed, too tired to do anything else. It was only 4 o'clock, but I was ready to sleep. Since I didn't have any other plans today, I decided to take a nap.

Reader's POV

"Mom, Dad? I'm back!" I yell, closing the door behind me. "Hey, sweetie! Did you have fun?" My mom yelled back from wherever. "Yeah! I bought a backpack, some pens and pencils, and a binder. I also bought myself lunch. I-It wasn't expensive, just some Taco Bell." I ramble, speaking faster towards the end. Mom smiled and hugged me. "What was that for?" I asked. I was quite confused, mainly because Mom doesn't like giving hugs.

"I'm proud of you," she smiled. "Not only do you have a friend, but you made plans with him. You're breaking out of your shell, Hun. Slowly, but surely." I blushed surprised by her words. "I-I guess, but I've had friends before, Mom." "Yes, but they always took advantage of your kindness. I hope Evan won't do that." She sighed. "I promise you he won't. He could never." I defended Evan so closely after she had said that, I nearly cut her off.

"I made plans with Evan for tomorrow. Can he come over? I'll finish unpacking my things tonight. It'll all be ready by tomorrow." I practically begged Mom. "As long as you start unpacking right now, yes." Mom responded. I took that as my cue to bolt upstairs and go to my new room and get everything out of the boxes.

I started by getting my boxes of clothes out. I lug them onto the bed my parents had bought the first night I was at the hospital with Evan. It was queen-sized, a little too big for me personally. I decided to put it right next to the windows and gave myself a bit of privacy by moving the headboard from it's original place, to by the side of the bed instead.

(literally just describing my room. im sorry.)

I tore one of the boxes open and flipped it upside down, letting all the clothes fall out. I repeated that with the rest of the boxes of clothes. I now had a giant pile of clothes on my bed which I either had to hang up or fold away.

My closet was a walk in closet and ridiculously big for someone that didn't go shopping often. When I went shopping, it was unenjoyable as I didn't like shopping.

(really really sorry if u like shopping)

I realized I didn't have any hangers and groaned loudly. "Mom?" I yelled. "Yes, Hun?" She yelled back. "Do you have any hangers?" I asked. "No! Go to the dollar store
and buy some for all of us please!" I could hear her hopeful grin through her voice. "Ugh! Fine! Only because I love you!" I groan. I run down the stairs and pick the car keys up from the kitchen counter and quickly start driving.

The trip to Dollar Tree was uneventful and pretty boring. I raced back up the stairs with my bag of hangers and got back to work, hanging up sweaters, long sleeved shirts, pants, and the few dresses I owned. I then folded all of my t-shirts, tank tops, shorts and whatnot. About half an hour later I had finished folding, and worked on unpacking the rest of my things

I started with the box labeled "(Y/N), books". That had been the heaviest box of mine, which perfectly explains me as a whole. A bookworm. I always had a new book to read, and constantly lost space in my bookshelves because of all the books I buy. As embarrassingly, and frankly cringey, stereotypical as it is, that was a big part of why people didn't talk to me much, or made fun of me.

I dragged my bookshelf across the room and pushed it against the empty wall. I mentally noted to add some wall decor later on. I then sorted the books. Series with series, then in alphabetical order starting with the first letter of the author's last name. Less than 45 minutes later, I finished organizing. It had been fairly easy but fitting them all into one section of the shelf was a pain.

I mentally noted what I had done so far. Folded and put away clothes, organized books, unpacked  a few boxes. I guess I needed to assemble my desk next. I ripped open the Ikea box so I could start building my desk. It was fairly easy but building big desks with only one person is difficult. I had experience though, so all in all it wasn't too, too much of a challenge.

I started packing stuff onto the desk and soon it was full. Once everything was organized and put on the desk, I took a sigh of relief and fell onto my bed. Before I knew it, I was asleep.

oh my god this is the worst chapter i have ever written. I promise the next one will be better as it'll actually take place in the school? sorry it took so long for this to come out i literally just had really bad writer's block. personally, i find it annoying when this happens but would you be fine if i added some be more chill characters here? comment ur opinions pleaseee.
